Home Intruder Left DRT(dead right there) in West Virginia Self-Defense Shooting

Inwood, WV – In the early hours of Wednesday morning, an intruder was shot and killed in what appears to be a case of justified self-defense at a vacant home in Berkeley County, West Virginia.

Michael Marshall, a resident of Inwood, called 911 at 3:46 a.m. to report that he had shot a man who had broken into his mother’s unoccupied house on Winchester Avenue. Berkeley County Sheriff’s deputies arrived quickly and discovered the intruder, later identified as 38-year-old Joshua Boone from Williamsport, Maryland, lying face down in the garage with a gunshot wound.

Despite attempts at life-saving measures by both deputies and EMS, Boone was pronounced dead (DRT) at the scene.

Marshall told investigators that he had previously reported a break-in at the same house on August 27, which prompted him to install motion sensors. Early Wednesday morning, those sensors alerted him to activity at the property. Upon arriving at the home, Marshall found Boone inside the garage. According to Marshall, Boone turned toward him, holding something in his hand, prompting Marshall to fire his handgun in self-defense.

The Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office is continuing to investigate the incident, and the case will be reviewed by the Berkeley County Prosecutor’s Office. No charges have been filed against Marshall at this time.
