Opinion

The staggering cost of open borders and unchecked asylum seekers is now glaringly clear: $166.5 billion.
That’s the estimated toll illegal alien crimes have inflicted on American victims, with the Biden administration’s lax enforcement policies exacerbating the crisis. This isn’t just a number—it’s a price paid in shattered families, stolen lives, and devastated communities.
Take the harrowing case of Rachel Morin, a Maryland mother of five whose life was cut short in an alleged murder by illegal alien Victor Martinez-Hernandez. Or the heartbreaking story of Laken Riley in Georgia, murdered by a member of Venezuela’s Tren de Aragua gang. These are just two of countless examples of victims who have paid the ultimate price for a failed immigration system.
The $166.5 billion figure, derived from data from Dr. John R. Lott and RealClear Investigations, is likely a lowball estimate. It considers only a fraction of the crimes committed by 662,566 non-detained illegal immigrants with criminal histories—criminals released into the U.S. on the flimsy hope they’ll show up for hearings. What about the untold crimes by the estimated two million “gotaways” who entered the U.S. since 2021, escaping even rudimentary scrutiny?
A SYSTEM IN CHAOS
Under the Biden administration, the problem spiraled out of control. Criminals poured into the country, taking advantage of overwhelmed immigration agencies. Many arrived with criminal records from their home countries—homicide, sexual assault, robbery—but ICE had neither the resources nor the authority to keep them detained until thorough background checks were completed.
Even when background checks were possible, the findings were damning. ICE reports reveal:
- 13,099 non-detained illegal immigrants have homicide convictions.
- 15,811 have sexual assault convictions.
- 62,231 have been convicted of assault.
Yet these figures are only the tip of the iceberg. Millions of migrants are violating U.S. laws simply by being here, and many engage in identity theft or other criminal acts to survive.
And the U.S. taxpayer? They’re footing the bill—not just for the crimes but also for the social, medical, and economic costs these offenses generate.
VICTIMIZATION THAT HITS HOME
Crime i not just a statistic—it’s a daily reality for victims and their families. The National Institute of Justice breaks down the immense costs of crimes, from medical expenses and mental health care to property loss and the immeasurable pain and suffering of victims. Murders alone account for $153.8 billion of the estimated $166.5 billion, with sexual assaults adding $6 billion more.
These aren’t just “numbers.” These are children without parents, wives, and daughters rapped, communities gripped by fear, and lives permanently scarred by violence.
THE BLAME GAME
The Biden administration’s policies created this mess. By releasing criminal immigrants without proper vetting and refusing to prioritize national security, they’ve allowed dangerous individuals to roam freely. Former Border Patrol Chief Aaron Heitke revealed that agents were ordered not to publicize arrests of migrants with terrorist ties—a chilling reminder of how political optics have trumped public safety.
President-elect Trump has pledged to reverse this. With plans to enforce strict deportation policies and reinstate the “Remain in Mexico” program, his administration aims to restore accountability. But even these measures face fierce opposition from left-leaning organizations, who argue against the $58 billion it would cost to deport the 662,566 identified criminal aliens.
Tom Homan doesn’t mess around!
“I got another message to the criminal cartels in Mexico.”
“You smuggled enough fentanyl across this country to k*ll 148,000 young Americans. You have k*lled more Americans than every terr*rist organization in the world combined.”

A CALL TO ACTION
It’s time to demand better. Americans shouldn’t have to shoulder the $166.5 billion burden of illegal alien crime—or the immeasurable emotional cost. We must hold leaders accountable, secure our borders, and ensure justice for victims like Rachel Morin and Laken Riley.
The price of inaction isn’t just dollars and cents. It’s American lives. Let’s make sure Washington hears that loud and clear.

Tred Law is your everyday patriot with a deep love for this country and a no-compromise approach to the Second Amendment. He does not write articles for Ammoland every week, but when he does write, it is usually about liberals Fing with his right to keep and bear arms.
First and most important as illegal aliens they should not be afforded any of the legal protection offered under the Bill of Rights/Constitution. If they have committed any type of violent crime resulting in death they should be immediately executed without delay at the border with the heads placed a pike facing back toward Mexico. If their crimes resulted in any injury to the victim they should be nailed to a pole at the border and allowed to slowly die while facing back towards Mexico. Until the consequences of their action become so horrific that even they will rethink being… Read more »
This policy is so egregious and treasonous I can’t find the words to condemn it. Every politician who is pro-immigration should be TAGGED as in not representing the citizens of their district in the USA. Businesses; except for migrant farmers in border states which has been traditional, should pay a wage that citizens would respect and be employed. You can bet there not giving the customer a full break on price. Quite honestly, we don’t need anymore people. The quality of life is heading downward for many because of this policy.
Alternate news says that one American white woman is raped and murdered every week in America by illegals.
The Biden Harris administration is still having daily planes flights from Venezuela and El Salvador, flying in hundreds of TDA gang members and hundreds of M-13 gang members.
Biden Harris administration told Border Patrol and ICE to just wave them through with no background checks or medical records.
In many America cities, TDA and M-13 is taking over from local gangs. Crime is increasing. Far leftist news media refused to talk about this. They still support Biden and Harris.
Now all of the sudden the left is crying about the 58 billion it would take to get rid of these thugs but if they did, the expenditure would be gone, right!!! If we keep them here, we will pay the 153.8 billion over and over again not counting all the suffering of innocent America citizens. Common sense answer is get rid of the trash. I think execution by a bullet would be the cheapest. Dig a big pit, 50X250 12 ft deep which is the depth of a standard extend a hoe, stand them up in front of it,… Read more »
One thing to remember, is how many green backs are they sending home, tax free? Billions? Trillions of dollars per year? What’s that costing us?
Let’s face it and be simple in definition…ALL ILLEGAL MIGRANTS ARE CRIMINALS. They knowingly crossed our soverign borders without proper authority or application. All are criminals, men, women and children. No exception should be given. Any illegal migrant desirous of legal immigration should be given an opportunity to return to the country of their origin and apply for proper authority to return to the U.S. If not found to have ties to criminal organizations or terrorist ones, their desire to become U.S. CITIZENS should reflect the efforts undertaken to immigrate to the U.S. and they could be “fastracked” to legal… Read more »
Sure, it’s a hefty price to pay. But liberals never said the diversity party would be cheap.
when the people demand the illegal aliens be removed from their states,
will their governors ask TRUMP for help?
So, add this $166.5 billion to the $130+ billion annually removed from the American economy in remittances (monies sent out of the country by aliens, both legal and illegal – usually to family back in their own countries) and that’s a shit ton of cash (not just a regular shit ton, either, but a Metric shit ton!) New York City is spending over $29,000 apiece on JUST housing for illegals, which is over twice my annual income from Social Security Disability. There are American combat veterans living on the streets while we put these criminals up in hotels and allow… Read more »
Send the DNC and Joe and Kamala the bill for this mess they can add it to the 20 million they are already in debt for after the Kamala money spending spree campaign. Lmfao
