GREENFIELD, IN — In a tragic early morning incident at the Amazon Distribution Warehouse in Greenfield, a confrontation between two employees ended in a fatal shooting, which authorities have preliminarily ruled as self-defense.
The Hancock County Sheriff’s Department responded to a distress call around 12:40 AM at the warehouse located at 7114 West 200N, close to the Cumberland and Marion County line.
Upon arrival, deputies discovered Isaac Riley, 39, of Indianapolis, deceased (DRT) from a gunshot wound in the parking lot.
Initial reports indicate that the shooting resulted from a heated altercation that escalated despite attempts at de-escalation. According to witnesses, Riley confronted the unidentified defender inside the facility, threatening physical harm. The defender, also from Indianapolis, reportedly tried to leave the scene to avoid further confrontation but was followed by Riley into the parking lot, where the situation intensified.
The defender, who had a firearm legally in his possession, responded by firing at Riley as he reportedly made aggressive moves toward him. This action, according to Hancock County Prosecutor Brent Eaton, appears justified as self-defense based on the preliminary evidence, which shows no successful grounds for prosecution.
Captain Robert Harris of the Hancock County Sheriff’s Department emphasized the isolated nature of the incident, stating, “This appears to be an isolated incident between two people, and the shooting appears to be in self-defense.” He also confirmed that both the defender and witnesses cooperated fully with the law enforcement investigation, which helped clarify the sequence of events.
Harris noted that they are not recommending any charges be filed against the defender. However, if that changes following further investigation, they will let the community know.
“We’re still talking with officials from the prosecutor’s office, but we believe this was self-defense,” Harris said.
Amazon has responded by temporarily shutting down the facility to cooperate with the ongoing investigation and plans to increase on-site security when operations resume. Austin Stowe, an Amazon spokesperson, expressed deep sorrow over the incident, extending thoughts to the loved ones of those involved during this difficult time.
As the local community reels from this event, law enforcement assures the public that there is no ongoing threat or danger following the incident. Further details will be released as the investigation, led by the Hancock County Sheriff’s Office, Hancock County 911 Center, and the Hancock County Prosecutor’s Office, progresses.

Expect the defender to be fired immediately if not sooner. Bezos doesn’t like any employee to exercise their Second Amendment rights. Even delivery drivers confronted at gunpoint with their lives threatened who respond in kind are summarily dismissed.

The lesson to be learned here is do not follow someone around making threats and intimidating them with threats of bodily harm or the bodily harm could be coming to you in the form of self defense .
Will the extra security be overweight mall cops armed with a badge and radio?
The story is vague in many areas.
