On January 6, 2025, the Second Amendment community lost one of its most dedicated champions.

Joanne D. Eisen passed away after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer, leaving behind a legacy of tireless advocacy and impactful writings.

Born in Brooklyn, New York, Joanne’s journey began humbly. She pursued a career in dentistry, and had little interest in politics, until she married Alan Eisen, whose passion for firearms and politics inspired her to become deeply involved in the Second Amendment arena. Over the next 30+ years, Joanne dedicated herself to advancing the cause, collaborating with prominent advocates and contributing significantly to the discourse on firearm rights and legislation.

Joanne’s body of work is remarkable.

She co-authored and collaborated with esteemed Second Amendment proponents, including: David Kopel, columnist at Reason Magazine, Paul Gallant, Doctor of Optometry, Gary Mauser, Professor Emeritus at Simon Fraser University, and Alan Chwick, at The Complete Machine and Everything .22 and More.

Together, they tackled critical issues, authoring 185+ published pieces that addressed topics ranging from self-defense and public safety to international arms treaties. Some of Joanne’s notable works include: “Civil Disobedience in Canada,” “Gunning for the Kiddies,” “Defending Gun Shows,” “A World Without Guns,” “Global Deaths from Firearms: Searching for Plausible Estimates,” “The Arms Trade Treaty,” and many more.

Her writings appeared in influential platforms like National Review Online, Newsmax.com, America’s 1st Freedom, AmmoLand News, SSRN Research, ReseardGate, and numerous other respected outlets journals.

Joanne’s voice was one of reason, passion, and unwavering commitment to supporting individual liberties. Her contributions have contributed to the growth of the Second Amendment community and to the strength of the United States.

Dr. Miguel A. Faria, M.D. writes “Joanne Eisen was a caring and insightful person, a painstaking scholar and researcher, an American patriot, and an eloquent writer for justice and the defense of freedom, especially the Second Amendment. She will be sorely missed by those who fight for liberty and against oppression. RIP Joanne”

David Kopel writes “Joanne Eisen was my coauthor and collaborator throughout the first decade of his century. Along with Dr. Paul Gallant, we wrote a dozen scholarly articles in journals from NYU, Notre Dame, Brown, U. Texas, and others, as well as many shorter articles. Joanne was an outstanding researcher, and together the three of us helped to expose the deadly lies of the global gun confiscation lobbies, including the UN itself.

From Albania to Zimbabwe, Joanne found and told the stories of the victims of coercive disarmament, Never wavering in her defense of the voiceless against the principalities and powers, Joanne Eisen fought the good fight, kept her faith in human rights, and now has finished the race. It was a blessing and a privilege to fight alongside her.” A longer tribute to “The Great Joanne Eisen” is available at the Reason magazine website.

“Joining AmmoLand News in 2013, Joanne D. Eisen dedicated her formidable talents to advocating for the Second Amendment, leaving an indelible mark on our readers and the rights we hold dear,” stated AmmoLand News Editor in Chief, Fredy Riehl. “Her meticulous research and powerful writing helped shape the national conversation on gun rights.” “Joanne’s legacy will continue to inspire and guide us as we uphold the freedoms she fought so tirelessly to protect.”

She will be profoundly missed by all who knew her and by those who were touched by her passion for the Second Amendment.

Rest in peace, Joanne.

Peace be with her family and those who cherished her friendship.

Whatstheuseanyway

Insidious disease. A young man in his thirties lost his dad shortly before the pandemic hit. I don’t think six months went by and he was told he had pancreatic cancer. I don’t think he made it a year. He was married, no kids yet. Life can sure be cruel.

Rest In Peace Mrs. Eisen ~ Thank you for all your hard work
