Self-Defense in Memphis: Grocery Store Manager Shoots Armed Shoplifter ~ VIDEO

In a tense confrontation at Gordin’s Foods & Butcher Shoppe in Frayser, Memphis, a grocery store manager exercised his right to self-defense during a robbery attempt, which escalated dramatically last Friday.

According to the Memphis Police Department, the incident unfolded when three individuals attempted to steal a cart filled with groceries valued at just under $200. The store manager, acting to protect the store’s property, confronted the thieves as they loaded the stolen items into a van outside the store.

The situation took a dangerous turn when one of the suspects, identified as 33-year-old Robby Wooten, a convicted felon previously charged with kidnapping, escalated the confrontation. Wooten reportedly drew a handgun, fired a shot into the air, and then threatened the store manager’s life.

In a decisive moment of self-defense, the store manager, who had been following protocol up until facing an immediate threat to his life, retrieved his own firearm. Wooten pointed his gun at the manager, who then defended himself by firing at Wooten, critically injuring him. This act of self-defense highlights the manager’s right to protect himself against an armed and dangerous individual who posed a lethal threat.

Dustin Fultz, 22, another suspect involved, attempted to disarm the manager during the altercation but was ultimately fought off and later arrested along with two 17-year-olds who participated in the theft.

Both Wooten and Fultz now face serious charges, including aggravated assault and theft, with Wooten also charged with being a convicted felon in possession of a handgun.

This incident underscores the complex scenarios that can arise in crime situations where the use of a firearm in self-defense becomes necessary. The store manager’s quick thinking and lawful action potentially saved his life and maintained the safety of others around him, exemplifying the responsible use of gun rights for self-protection under extreme circumstances.

This scenario, while unfortunate, serves as a poignant reminder of the necessity for law-abiding citizens to remain vigilant and prepared to defend themselves lawfully, especially when faced with clear and present danger.

Some observations: Obviously, the suspects believed they were in Calipornia, where “small” thefts seem to be encouraged by government. Not so much in Memphis. Discharging you weapon into the air to discourage an armed man only subtracts the number of rounds fired from the number of rounds available to effect your (now) armed robbery, which would have only been petit theft in most jurisdictions before drawing the weapon. Drawing a weapon when you are only going to try to kill the sky will motivate some other people to shoot. Shoot you, that is, not the sky. Less than $200 in… Read more »

Sounds like the illegal shopping spree bought one of them a lead pellet and a prison sentence. The others only purchased jail sentences. Their illegal shopping spree ended with a little justice being served up it appears
