ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – In a dramatic and violent encounter late Wednesday night with up to seven teenagers, a 14-year-old boy was fatally shot during an attempted robbery that has shaken the Albuquerque community and reignited discussions about teen crime and self-defense rights.
The incident occurred at an apartment complex on Tramway Blvd, where Alfonso Sanderson and a group of seven other teenagers, including a 12-year-old, attempted to rob a couple seated in their Jeep. According to the Albuquerque Police Department (APD), Sanderson, armed and dangerous, approached the vehicle with a gun alongside another teen who also brandished a firearm.
The situation escalated rapidly when the teens opened fire, injuring the woman in the passenger seat. In a swift reaction characterized by law enforcement as self-defense, the woman’s husband returned fire, striking Sanderson, who later succumbed to his injuries.
This incident is now under investigation as a justifiable homicide.
The remaining teens involved fled the scene, later seeking medical attention for their injuries and ultimately facing a slew of serious charges, including armed robbery and aggravated battery. The involvement of multiple attackers highlights the need for maximum firearms magazine capacity to defend against two or, in this case, seven criminals.

This isn’t an education issue as much as it is a parenting problem. Where are the parents? We know they will eventually surface, claiming these are good kids, didn’t deserve this, shoot them in the leg, blah, blah, blah. Play stupid games – win stupid prizes.
