Urbana, IL — A road rage incident escalated into a self-defense shooting Saturday afternoon, leaving one man in intensive care, according to police.
The incident began around 4:30 p.m. near Five Points and continued through the streets of Urbana. Police said a solo male driver became involved in a verbal altercation with a male passenger and a female driver in another vehicle. The situation intensified as the female driver followed the solo driver to Carle Foundation Hospital’s emergency department parking lot. Attempting to distance himself, the solo driver left the lot and eventually stopped near Busey Avenue and Park Street.
The situation took a violent turn when both occupants of the pursuing vehicle exited. Police reported that the female driver was armed with a baseball bat, while the male passenger approached the solo driver with his hand concealed under his shirt.
Believing the man might be armed, the solo driver, a concealed carry permit holder, acted in self-defense. He retrieved his legally concealed firearm and fired several shots, striking the male passenger.
The solo driver immediately called 911 and remained on the scene to cooperate with authorities. The injured male passenger was transported to a local hospital, where he underwent surgery and remains in intensive care. Police confirmed no arrests have been made, and the investigation is ongoing.

i would have shot her first, she was the one with the weapon. what happened with the woman, did she stay on scene? did the passenger have a weapon? she should be charged with aggravated assault and road rage at the very least.
