Florida Home Invasion Ends in Self-Defense Shooting of MMA Fighter [DRT] ~ VIDEO

Lake City, FL – A Lake City man was shot and killed late Tuesday night while allegedly breaking into a home where his ex-wife and children lived, according to police. Authorities say the incident appears to fall under Florida’s Stand Your Ground law.

The deceased, identified as 31-year-old Langston Sykes, was a local mixed martial arts (MMA) fighter known by the nickname “Blaze.” According to the Lake City Police Department (LCPD), Sykes forcibly entered the home just after 11 p.m. and rushed toward an adult occupant, prompting them to fire multiple shots in self-defense.

When officers arrived at the Southwest Leslie Glen residence, they found Sykes unresponsive with gunshot wounds. Emergency responders attempted life-saving measures, but he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Home Invasion and Prior Injunction

Police confirmed that one of the adults in the home had an active injunction against Sykes. The victims inside, including multiple adults and children, knew him. The break-in and violent confrontation led investigators to believe this may be a justified case of self-defense under Florida law.

“This is a tragic incident, and our thoughts are with everyone affected,”
said LCPD Police Chief Gerald Butler in a statement.

“Based on the investigation, it appears this may be a case of a resident acting in self-defense during a home invasion. Our detectives are working diligently to ensure a thorough and complete investigation.”

History of Conflict and Legal Troubles

Friends and family members have spoken out with conflicting perspectives on Sykes. While some describe him as a dedicated father and fierce competitor, others acknowledge past incidents of aggression. Social media posts suggest that his ex-wife had moved out to escape his behavior.

Public records show Sykes had prior legal issues, including a 2011 grand theft auto conviction and a recent traffic offense for driving without a license.

MMA Community Reacts

The Florida-based MMA gym where Sykes trained released a statement mourning his loss:

“Langston was not only a fierce competitor and a dedicated teammate, but he was also a great father and friend. His kindness and support for those he loved will never be forgotten.”

Fellow fighter Ramon Taveras urged others not to lose sight of their dreams, saying, “To anyone chasing a dream, don’t lose it over something or somebody.”

Ongoing Investigation

While no charges have been filed against the shooter, the investigation remains open. Anyone with information is encouraged to contact LCPD at (386) 719-5749 or Crime Stoppers of Columbia County at (386) 754-7099.

This case highlights Florida’s Stand Your Ground law, which allows residents to use deadly force if they reasonably believe they are in danger. As details continue to emerge, it reinforces the reality that when seconds count, self-defense is often the only option.

No, this is only a case of self-defense in the home, SYG had notihing to do with it. Too bad he didn’t learn to be a real man and temper his emotions. Beating-up women is not manly. Sykes failed, class dismissed with final judgement meted out.

Just like other sports and jobs there are many talented athletes that just can’t leave the “culture” and be good people.

Good shooting!!!!!

Our hero should get tax free status for life, a. new gun, 10,000 rounds of ammo and the keys to the city from a grateful public.

Saved tax slaves millions in legal, medical, food, incarceration costs and saved the lives of potential future victims.

Piss in his coffin!

Filed under Competitive Shooting? Well maybe it’s fitting since the Blaze was a MMA competitor. Guess the bullet was faster though.
