Duplin County, NC – A violent home invasion attempt early Sunday morning ended with an armed North Carolina homeowner fatally shooting a man wielding an axe DRT (dead right there) at the scene, according to the Duplin County Sheriff’s Office.
The incident happened around 6:30 a.m. on Mother’s Day, May 11, at a home on Sheffield Road in the small town of Magnolia. Deputies say 35-year-old David Bradley White tried to break into the house through the back door while armed with a large axe.
Fearing for their lives, the homeowners responded by firing multiple shots through the door, striking White. Deputies found him lying on his back at the bottom of the steps with multiple gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead at the scene. A large axe and other weapons were found near his body, and the back door showed signs of forced entry.
After consulting with District Attorney Ernie Lee and reviewing all evidence and witness statements, officials determined the shooting was justified. As of now, no charges have been filed against the homeowners.
“The law is clear: you have a right to defend your home and family from a deadly threat,” one local resident told reporters.
The case remains under investigation, but authorities say the evidence supports the homeowners’ right to self-defense.
For many American gun owners, this case is another reminder of why the Second Amendment matters—when seconds count, the police are still minutes away. The firearm wasn’t the threat here. The axe-wielding intruder was.
