Biggest Non-Secret: Anti-Gun Groups Overwhelmingly Support Dems

In a headline which should surprise nobody in the Second Amendment community, the Maine Wire is reporting “Gun Control Groups Gave Over Six Figures to Maine Dems in 2024 Election Cycle.”

Why that might be news to anyone in the Pine Tree State seems baffling, because it is common knowledge that the coffers of gun prohibition lobbying groups seem wide open to Democrats from Capitol Hill on down the chain to state legislatures. Open Secrets even has a chart which reports the millions of dollars which went to Democrats during the 2023-2024 election cycle, and none of it went to conservative groups, and very little went to Republicans.

On the other hand, Open Secrets noted how anti-gun billionaire Michael Bloomberg’s Everytown for Gun Safety dished out $9,301,552, of which $252,759 went to Democrats, a paltry $1,005 went to Republicans, and $9,145,639 went to liberal groups.

Giffords, a rising anti-gun group, reportedly contributed $3,204,582 during the two-year period, of which $3,188,930 went to liberal groups, $15,592 went directly to Democrats, and nothing went to Republicans or conservative groups. The pattern is essentially the same as one reads down a list of groups, including the Brady Campaign, Everytown For Gun Safety Victory Fund, Ban Assault Weapons Now PAC, and so forth.

As noted by the Maine Wire, “According to campaign finance reports filed on the Maine Ethics Commission website, the Senate Democratic Campaign Committee (SDCC) PAC received $25,000 from Everytown for Gun Safety Action Fund on October 30 last year, days before the election.”

And Open Secrets reported, “Gun control advocates have favored Democrats almost exclusively with their contributions over the years: since 1990, 99% of contributions have gone to Democratic candidates. Outside spending by new groups formed in the wake of highly publicized mass shootings has been a game-changer in terms of amounts invested on this side of the debate.”

After years of media attacks on such groups as the National Rifle Association for contributing millions of dollars to political campaigns, the silence from the establishment media on the issue of big money gun control lobbying groups donating exclusively to Democrats is deafening.

The Boston Globe reported last month how “gun violence prevention advocates” have launched a campaign to defend that state’s strict gun control laws after a group called the Civil Rights Coalition collected more than twice the number of required signatures to place an issue on the ballot next year which would repeal last year’s gun regulations. However, it is a safe bet to presume the anti-gun-rights “Vote Yes for a Safe Massachusetts” will pull in big money from around the country to defend the restrictive law.

The Globe quoted Ruth Zakarin, committee chair and CEO of Massachusetts Coalition to Prevent Gun Violence, who stated, “We’ve really been bringing a lot of folks together and talking about what we need to do to protect this legislation. I think that we have a pretty broad coalition of folks coming together who really want to see these policies move forward in Massachusetts.”

In the past, in other states, when gun rights groups and grassroots activists try to fight restrictive gun laws, they found themselves literally outspent by the gun prohibition lobby, which is supported by wealthy elitists including Bloomberg, Microsoft founder Bill Gates, the late Paul Allen and others. In 2014, a Washington state initiative mandating so-called “universal background checks” was on the ballot. The Seattle-based Alliance for Gun Responsibility spent more than $10 million to pass it.

It’s not all politics. Organizations such as NRA, the Second Amendment Foundation, Firearms Policy Coalition and Gun Owners of America are taking the fight to the courts, and this also costs a small fortune.

As noted by a report at GUNS Magazine, fighting “the good fight” in court is no cheap proposition. Court fights can take months and even years, and they can be rejected by the U.S. Supreme Court if the cases make it that far.

But all of this gun control money flowing into Democrat and liberal coffers may explain why perennially anti-gun Democrats try to spin every conversation towards restrictive new gun laws. Over the weekend, according to the Washington Examiner, anti-gun Congressman Jamie Raskin, a Maryland Democrat, was being interviewed about the antisemitic attack on a pro-Isreal demonstration in Boulder, Colorado, and he managed to steer the conversation towards guns.

As described by the Washington Examiner story, “Raskin…called the attack a symptom of deeper national crises, including an epidemic of gun violence. He used the moment to press for long-standing Democratic priorities on gun policy reform.”

However, the attack allegedly launched by a man identified as Mohamed Soliman didn’t involve guns. He is accused of throwing a firebomb and using incendiary devices.

Anyone wanna bet that those who want Citizens disarmed are part of the group who ‘feel’ that they will be given authority positions when the social revolution takes place? After all, they are all so much smarter than us plain old ordinary people.

Nick T

They spend millions to achieve their goal of disarmament, and we spend millions to help them. The difference they use any method they can while we will not use any of the lawful powers the Founders bequeath to us.

I use Open Secrets to check contribution history of a company’s directors before voting.
The vehemently anti-gun for private citizens “late Paul Allen” amassed a large private collection of fully functional (i.e. main guns and machine guns) tanks, armor and aircraft. Allen’s museum was sold to the Walton family after his death.

when I stock up on gear, I buy a box or two then try to donate the cost of a box of ammunition or two to a pro 2A group. I also volunteer for my state’s pro 2A organization. Get off of the couch and campaign for a pro 2A candidate. You get fresh air, get your steps in, bring a friend have a great conversation during the time you volunteer. Spread the pro 2A message. Sitting on the couch with limited effort is how the pendulum swung too far in the wrong direction. You can spend time or money… Read more »
