Last week, May 28, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis signed House Bill 6025 into law, protecting our Second Amendment Rights during a state of emergency. The new law became effective upon the governor’s signature.
NRA thanks Governor DeSantis, the bill sponsors Senator Blaise Ingoglia, Representative Monique Miller, Representative Debbie Mayfield, and the legislators who supported this legislation.
Background on Florida House Bill 6025 (2025):
House Bill 6025/Senate Bill 952 repeals automatic prohibitions that violate Floridians’ Second Amendment rights during a state of emergency. The following acts are automatic prohibitions that this legislation repeals: the intentional possession of a firearm in public, the sale of any ammunition or firearms, and the intentional display of ammunition or firearms in a store.
By repealing this section, the new law ensures that lawful gun owners can still possess, carry, and buy firearms during declared emergencies—as long as they’re not committing a crime. Supporters say it protects Second Amendment rights during crises. It was signed into law by Governor DeSantis on May 28, 2025.

Where do Florida politicians get the notion that our Rights can be restricted during emergencies, in the first place.
I consider the political situation in the country a National Emergency. We now need DeSantis to declare the same.
That’s a start. Now let me openly carry a long gun during an emergency.
Somehow, I thought Florida had passed such a law, a few years ago.
Cool. Now declare an ongoing emergency.
I thought that after Katrina a federal law was made that we could not be disarmed because of a disaster?
