Concealed-Carry License Holder Stops Harvey Mass Shooting; Police Say Violence Was Targeted, Not Random ~ VIDEO

HARVEY, Ill. — A concealed-carry license (CCL) holder stopped a mass shooting at a house party in Harvey, Illinois, on Saturday night by returning fire and killing one of the two attackers, according to police and multiple media reports.

The shooting began shortly after 8 p.m. in the 14400 block of Des Plaines Street, where a house party was underway. Harvey police said two armed men arrived at the gathering and opened fire on the crowd. Seven people were shot, including a 4-year-old boy.

Police said the child suffered non-life-threatening injuries and was listed in stable condition. Four other victims were taken to area hospitals and were also reported to be stable.

A licensed gun owner who was attending the party returned fire. One of the attackers was shot and killed [DRT] at the scene, while the second suspect was wounded, taken to a hospital, and later placed in police custody.

The Cook County Medical Examiner identified the deceased suspect as 24-year-old Charles Lipsey, according to CBS Chicago. Other reports identified a man connected to the broader conflict as 28-year-old Jeremiah R. Adutu-Bofah, who police later said was killed in a separate shooting hours afterward. Authorities have acknowledged the events are connected but have not released full charging details.

“This is something you would hear if you were at war,” said Willie Hill, 73, who told CBS Chicago he was sitting on his porch when the gunfire erupted. “It was terrible. Loud. I mean, you could tell it was nothing to play with.”

Another neighbor, Michael Parker, told reporters, “Bullets fly. They don’t have a name on the bullet.”

Police said the second suspect injured during the house-party shooting remains in custody and is in stable condition. No charges had been announced as of the latest update.

Second Shooting Believed to Be Retaliation

Just before 5 a.m. Sunday, Harvey police responded to reports of gunfire in the 200 block of Calumet Boulevard, several blocks away from the original shooting. Officers found a man inside a minivan with multiple gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police said preliminary information indicates the second shooting was a retaliatory act connected to the earlier attack at the house party. Officials reported that more than 30 rounds were fired during that incident. Another occupant of the vehicle was not injured.

“This was not random,” a Harvey police official said during a press conference. “These were not acts of senseless or spontaneous violence.”

Police Say Conflict Involved Known Individuals

During a Monday press conference, Harvey police emphasized that the violence stemmed from a long-running feud between two groups of known individuals, not a random threat to the public.

“We now know who the bad actors are,” police said. “This violence stems from an ongoing conflict between individuals with a long and disruptive history within our city.”

Police outlined a timeline of prior shootings and attacks involving the same individuals dating back to 2018, including multiple attempted shootings and at least two previous homicides connected to the dispute.

Officials stressed that while the incidents were serious, they were isolated and targeted. Police said there is no ongoing threat to the general public and that patrols have been increased in the area as a precaution.

Lawful Self-Defense Highlighted

Authorities acknowledged that the presence of an armed, law-abiding citizen likely prevented further loss of life.

“It’s good that someone had a weapon to return fire,” Hill said, while also questioning why the attackers targeted the location in the first place.

Police said the investigation remains active and encouraged anyone with information, including video footage, to contact the Harvey Police Department. Tips can be submitted anonymously.

The case remains under review as detectives work to finalize charges and determine the full sequence of events leading up to both shootings.

Not a damn thing has changed in Chicagoland since the days of Al Capone. You have rival gangs doing what they do, corrupt cops, uber corrupt judiciary running amok. And super corrupt, incompetent politicians grifting and getting fat on the backs of the citizenry. One would… Read more »

This conflict is far from finished. Law enforcement knows exactly who is involved. Local government allows this behavior because most residents are comfortable with it and want this type of violence to continue. Their voting history proves it.
I’ve been to Chicago numerous times over the past 70÷ years and never witnessed any violent behavior, but I never stepped foot out of the airport.
