Fairfax, VA –-(Ammoland.com)-  The National Rifle Association (NRA) was instrumental in stalling the Obama Administration’s initial attempt to ban commonly used ammunition for the most popular rifle in America, the AR-15.

The announcement that the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (BATFE) will suspend its proposed framework to ban M855 ammunition validates the NRA’s assertion that this effort was nothing more than a political maneuver to bypass Congress and impose gun control on the American people.

“Today’s announcement proves what we have said all along — this was 100% political. President Obama failed to pass gun control through Congress, so he tried impose his political agenda through executive fiat. But every gun owner in America needs to understand Barack Obama’s hatred of the Second Amendment has not changed,” said Wayne La Pierre, Executive Vice President of the National Rifle Association.

Chris Cox, Executive Director of NRA-ILA criticized the dishonest campaign to ban this common ammunition: “The lies used to justify the ban were shameful. This proposal was never about law enforcement safety – it was about the Obama Administration’s desire to pander to billionaire Michael Bloomberg and his gun control groups.  Since they haven’t been able to ban America’s most popular rifle, they are trying to ban the ammunition instead.”

Since the BATFE announced its plan to ban commonly used ammunition less than a month ago, the NRA rallied its five million members and tens of millions of supporters across the country in strong opposition.  In addition, the NRA worked with congressional leaders in both the U.S. House and Senate to oppose this misguided proposal.

“The NRA would like to thank House Judiciary Committee Chairman Bob Goodlatte, Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Chuck Grassley and House Commerce, Justice, State Appropriations Subcommittee Chairman John Culberson for leading the fight against this unconstitutional attack on our Second Amendment freedoms,” continued Cox.  “This was a significant victory for our five million members and tens of millions of supporters across the country.

“Make no mistake, this fight is not over. We will remain vigilant and continue to fight against President Obama’s attempt to dismantle the Second Amendment,” concluded LaPierre.

Another key piece of information is that BAFTE updated their Guide book for 2015 (updated every 10 years, last one 2005) and printed it in January. A month before they announced their 30 day comment period on Feb 15 to end March 16. This 30 day comment period was a way to make it look like they were being transparent and inclusive. This was all smoke and mirrors. In their guide, they already removed this ammo from the exemption section. Therefore they already decided to ban it! See below NRA update. https://www.nranews.com/home/document/common-ar-15-green-tip-ammunition-already-banned-in-new-atf-regulation-guide Lastly, the ATF’s current statement was not that… Read more »

Now, how about going back to get rid of the ban on the importation of 5.45×39 “7N6” ammunition? We seemed to have rolled over on that one, just because it’s not as popular as the 5.56 round, but the Issue is exactly the same!!! It does not meet the military or BATFE definition of armor piercing, yet they banned it anyway, citing the existence of a pistol in that caliber. The funny thing is that most people have never heard of that pistol, as it’s not even available in this country!!!

Great news, but please tell your headline writer that it’s WAVE, not waive (sic).

While I am a committed and loyal NRA Benefactor level member there were other key organizations involved in getting this stopped for now; one the NSSF (National shooting Sports Foundation). Do NOT think for even one second this is done–our Constitution and Bill Of Rights hating president will be ordering the ATF to come at this again, it is what he does and the top people will comply to save their management jobs. And come on radio types and others, do NOT call this armor piercing ammunition (it is NOT). The reason for the green tip (M855 round) is to… Read more »

Well done – thank you. Perhaps the “usual” places will now reduce their jacked up prices on green tip! I was kinda surprised to find Midway joining the fray. Now NRA ILA ::- please work on the abolition of the NFA act AND the 1986 FA ban, the NFA act is de-facto registration – pure and simple. The FA ban limits the “fun” switch to all but the very wealthy (and of course “criminals”) And for good measure also the restoration of rights for our Veterans – mentally “wounded” in action is NOT grounds to have your rights stripped from… Read more »

Great news that the BATFE backed down on the ammo-ban. But you know when your out hunting you always have to be on guard for “The Snake in the Grass”. But, however, Congress needs to man up and stop this Yahoo and shut down the games he keeps trying to pull.
