Arizona – -(Ammoland.com)- In April, a clerk at a Shell station in Houston was shot. From abc13.com:

Police say armed robbers held up a gas station in northwest Houston overnight. They got away, but not before shooting the clerk

Now we learn that the clerk was paralyzed.  From click2houston.com:

According to his co-workers, the shooting left that clerk paralyzed. No one was arrested.

Back at the Shell station, Thursday night, 4 December, 2014.  This time things proceeded in a different fashion.  From click2houston.com:

Police said the clerk pointed his gun at the robbers and ordered them to leave. One of the crooks opened fire and the store clerk shot back, hitting one of the suspects in the leg, officers said.

(snip)

The clerk was not hurt in the gunfight and the robbers did not get away with anything, according to police.

What a difference a gun can make.  It turns a cat and mouse game into a cat and watchdog game, even if the watchdog is ordinarily a friendly sheepdog.

Statistically, guns probably decrease crime a small amount, and they do not appear to increase crime at all; but if you are one of the statistics, they can make an enormous difference in your life.

Never shoot to wound. If a threat presents itself, shoot to kill to stop the threat. If you shoot a turd in the kness you are opening yourself up for alot of grief in the legal system. Plus, the turd will eventually be back committing crimes. Put the turds out of business permanent ! (after a shooting never give a statement to the police until you talk to an attorney, never ! That is very important to remember even when you are amped up and being pressured to give a statement,..DONT)

Hunter, if you “knee-cap” the bad guy, he’ll probably sue you, and the way some courts are, probably win. If you have to shoot, make certain the guy’s done for the count permanently.

Hunter

If you do aim for the lower extremities, then aim for the knees so that if you hit your target the perp will limp and remember this day for the rest of his life.

@John Dunlap carr says,..’the bulk of the body would have been a much larger target’. ? Yep John, you might really have something there !

When adrenalin and ‘tunnel vision’ kick in you get off the best shot you can. Train, train and train some more!

Shot in the leg. The bulk of the body would have been a much larger target.

This new clerk needs to practice more with his firearm. Dont shoot in the legs the thugs will survive that. Center mass or head or both X2 !

I’ll be willing to bet you dinner that he wasn’t aiming at the guys leg and he was really lucky to hit that! Take a tactical pistol course and practice, practice, practice.
