Contact Your Ohio Legislators, Urge Them To Override Kasich’s Veto Of HB228

Ohio – -(AmmoLand.com)- Ohioans for Concealed Carry needs you to contact your Ohio Senator and Representative to urge them to vote to override Kasich’s anti-citizen and anti-law enforcement veto of HB228!

As you may know, this bill makes improvements to Ohio’s concealed carry law:

  • 1) Shifts the burden of proof in self defense shootings from the accused to the prosecutor (like 49 other states in the Union have).
  • 2) Strengthens Ohio Revised Code 9.68 to prevent municipalities from continuing to violate state preemption law without financial repercussions.
  • 3) Makes straw purchases a state crime.
  • 4) Removes the requirement to carry a second form of identification in addition to a concealed handgun license.
  • 5) Removes the requirement to post “no guns” signs in statutory locations that have opted to allow carry.
  • 6) Permits law enforcement officers without a CHL to carry into liquor establishments when off duty.
  • 7) Adds correction officers to the list of persons required to complete a firearms requalification program annually.

The bill is scheduled for a veto override vote in both chambers of the legislature after Christmas. We urge you to call AND write your legislators (see below for a sample email and info on how to find your legislators and how to determine your zip + four which is needed on some searches) and voice your strong support for the veto override. We vividly saw how grass roots from the opposition impacted pro-gun hearings in both chambers this year. We need to show both chambers of our legislature how strongly we support a veto override of this bill.

Below is the corrected link to a list of Senators and Representatives with their phone numbers and email address for your convenience. There are two tabs to the spreadsheet, one for the House and one for the Senate.

If you aren’t sure what to say, copy and paste the following sample into an email, add the Senator or Representative’s name and your name (and make any other changes you desire) before sending.

Senator/Representative ________________________________

I am a constituent in your district and I am outraged at Governor Kasich’s veto of Substitute House
Bill 228. This bill makes common sense law. Ohio is the only state in the United States where a person who defends himself/herself and/or loved ones with deadly force is guilty until the person proves the actions were not illegal. Every other state in the union follows the principal of innocent until proven guilty. Substitute House Bill 228 aligns the principal of innocent until proven guilty with the rest of the Union.

This is not a one sided bill. There are provisions in this bill that make sense for both concealed handgun owners and law enforcement.

1) Strengthens Ohio Revised Code 9.68 to prevent municipalities from continuing to violate state preemption law without financial repercussions.
2) Makes straw purchases a state crime.
3) Shifts the burden of proof in self defense shootings from the accused to the prosecutor (as is the case in the other 49 states in the Union.)
4) Removes the requirement to carry a second form of identification in addition to a concealed handgun license.
5) Removes the requirement to post “no guns” signs in statutory locations that have opted to allow carry.
6) Permits law enforcement officers without a CHL to carry into liquor establishments when off duty.
7) Adds correction officers to the list of persons required to complete a firearms requalification program annually.

I strongly urge you to attend the veto override session for Substitute House Bill 228and vote to override this anti-citizen and anti-law enforcement veto.

Sincerely,

@ Rev. I didn’t know he was a government dependant. They all turn out well, for instance the twerp from Parkland that rode his bike four miles to the carnage (I don’t want to glorify him by using his name).

John Kasich is a RINO penis wrinkle.

Brian

I’m not in favor of straw purchases—certainly I am not—but what exactly is the benefit of making them a state crime in addition to a federal one? When I see bullet points like that without an explanation I get a little concerned. Are we going to have to fill out a state form now too? If we’re falsely accused of a straw purchase, are we now facing more legally fees being charged with a state crime in addition to a federal one? I’m not sure how these things work, but they usually don’t work in our favor. I have no… Read more »

I personally fired off a tweet to John Kasich telling him and less than 2 weeks he will be a citizen civilian not a citizen governor and that he can get his ass kicked for the stupidity that he has yes I definitely would love to send that bastard a message from a real man that lives in the state of Ohio please send me emails

No Bull

I had already sent the fact-filled friendly request email the day Kasich vetoed. So I sent another sorta follow up to my Legislators yesterday: I was dissapointed that HB228 didn’t make it out of the Senate without changes that were made to appease the ego of Crying John Kasich. I was not at all surprised that the petulant child still vetoed the legislation. I ask you to vote to overide the veto and show Kasich that what he wants does not matter to Ohio gun owners. He lied to us to get the mansion. He’s turned on us as a… Read more »

Want to see HR228 vetoed yesterday.

No Bull

Lewis, your comment is unclear. Are you happy that Manchild Johnny vetoed the Bill?

The Revelator

Yep, The state I currently live in. Will be firing off as many of these as I can.

Make note everyone on Ammoland. John Kasich has aspirations for the Whitehouse, and he is an enemy to the constitution. DO NOT let this man into higher office. Remember, he partnered with “New Way California” whose goal it is to bring progressive socialism to the mainstream Republican party. If you consider yourself a Republican, don’t let him fool you he is worse than Hilary Clinton because he is a snake in hiding.

Brian

I agree. I don’t think he’s worse than Hillary, but he’s just as bad. I’ve met him a few times and he’s practically my neighbor, but I will not vote for him. Ever.

The Revelator

@PonyPlayer

He is worse in the fact that there are some people out there who are dumb enough to vote for him just because he puts an (R) in front of his name.

As for having him as a neighbor, You have my sympathies. He may put on a nice personality, but he is a liar and a fraud.

Happy new year to you and stay safe.

tomcat

@ Rev I think he slid out of the swamp into Ohio to use it as a stepping stone to another job in the swamp. He is a RINO in every sense of the word and needs to be put out to permanent pasture.

The Revelator

@tomcat

Well…. I don’t know if you know this or not since he hardly ever mentions it(Meaning every chance he gets), but his father was a Post Office Worker. That means he has lived off Government and tax payer dollars since he was a child. Not surprising that he would turn out a little slimy.
