Lawsuits, Bump Stocks & My 2020 Election Predictions

USA – -(AmmoLand.com)- Predictions. Oh, they can get you in trouble, for sure, especially if you’re wrong when you make them and it comes back to bite you weeks, months or even years later. That’s what I love about them though and why I like making them from time to time.

Here are a few predictions for you from the mind of some guy who talks on the radio six out of seven days every week, for what will be ten years on April 26th, and for whatever it’s worth.

Remington Lawsuit

I’ll start with the Remington suit in Connecticut. This suit claims that Remington, by its advertising, is responsible for the murders of 26 people. Now, think about this for a moment. We are to believe that somehow an ad in a magazine somewhere, released one of the Seven Princes of Hell in the form of some little bastard loser who, because of the ad he saw, would go on to commit one of the worst crimes in American history? A loser who, after murdering his mother by blowing her face off, then pulled out the magazine ad of the Bushmaster XM-15 and searched his freshly dead mother’s safe for that gun so he could then murder 26 others, you know, as the ad told him too.

Nope. Not going anywhere. Remington will prevail in this ridiculous suit designed by the gun prohibitionist lobby to do one thing and one thing only, bankrupt a company whose products they don’t like, as part of their bigger strategy of civilian disarmament. While Remington may lose a round or two along the way, they will prevail in the long run. Unfortunately, in the process, the gun ban whackos will have depleted a ton of their financial resources along the way. Remington wins.

Bump Stock Bans

Let’s move to bump stocks. For those of you who read these pages, you’re already aware that this isn’t about bump stocks. No, it’s about much more than some inert piece of plastic with no moving parts. It’s about a bureaucratic arm of the federal government wielding (apparently) the incredible power to change a definition that, in turn, changes a “rule” that when enacted, flips hundreds of thousands of good, law-abiding American citizens into federal felons literally between 11:59 pm one night and 12:00 am the next morning, myself included. Well, it would have involved me but, alas, my mom doesn’t want me to talk about it.

We all know, (and so does any intellectually honest, clear thinking person – which does not include the gun ban crowd) that we can’t just change definitions to fit our agenda by making shit up out of thin air to reach the desired conclusion. That is, until now. Of course, some cases are working their way through the judicial system that common sense dictates, should prevail. Unfortunately, they won’t. Ouch, I know. Truth be told, while we all know what the ATF and DOJ did was wrong, they’re going to win. Why? Because this isn’t a case about the Second Amendment. Combine that with the fact that a vast majority of American’s are sheep and there’s your answer. Too many Americans believe everything the legacy (dying) media tells them, and frankly, there just isn’t an appetite for protecting bump stocks, even though we all know, it ain’t about the bump stock.

Oh, I would be remiss if I failed to mention this statement issued by the NRA shortly after the Vegas murders regarding said bump stocks:

“In the aftermath of the evil and senseless attack in Las Vegas, the American people are looking for answers as to how future tragedies can be prevented. Unfortunately, the first response from some politicians has been to call for more gun control. Banning guns from law-abiding Americans based on the criminal act of a madman will do nothing to prevent future attacks. This is a fact that has been proven time and again in countries across the world. In Las Vegas, reports indicate that certain devices were used to modify the firearms involved. Despite the fact that the Obama administration approved the sale of bump fire stocks on at least two occasions, the National Rifle Association is calling on the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (BATFE) to immediately review whether these devices comply with federal law. The NRA believes that devices designed to allow semi-automatic rifles to function like fully-automatic rifles should be subject to additional regulations. In an increasingly dangerous world, the NRA remains focused on our mission: strengthening Americans’ Second Amendment freedom to defend themselves, their families and their communities. To that end, on behalf of our five million members across the country, we urge Congress to pass National Right-to-Carry reciprocity, which will allow law-abiding Americans to defend themselves and their families from acts of violence.”

In my humble opinion, this statement green-lighted the process that has now resulted in an estimated half a million new American federal felons. In December 2018, the NRA made a lame attempt to walk it back telling us this was a better option than a potential “legislative over-reaction.” Honestly, their walk back statement was a pretty pathetic reach for some plausible deniability. Sorry guys, too little too late.

Yes, the mighty NRA is capable of making mistakes, and in this case, they *% blew it. See, the strategy here is for people like me to just stop talking about it and, as I mentioned since nobody cares about bump stocks anyway, it’ll all just go away – eventually. Except for people like me, it won’t all just go away because the ATF has just opened the door for a future gun-hating president to use the current rule, or just change it again, to come after all of my semi-automatic firearms in the future, or now if they decide. The truth hurts, doesn’t it?

Election 2020

Here comes the big one. The election in 2020. Far too early to tell because 18 months in politics is 200 gazillion light years in geologic time, but here goes anyway. The Socialists are now running the party formerly known as Democrats, but when it comes to crunch time, and if they’re smart, I believe the eventual nominee will be far more to the center than the current crop of lefty lunatics. If they do so, the race will be scary tight. If not, Trump landslides with historical margins.

So those are my predictions, now you can hold me to them. I’ll see ya on these pages and on the radio!

The NRA green lighted the Bump stock ban and Trump jumped on board. When the bump stock ban started my support for trump ended.
How many people know that the FBI never said bump stocks were used in the Vegas shooting.

Bump stocks do not work using a Bi-pod.

Your characterization of the 2020 election is inherently flawed when you claim a center Democrat would have a greater chance against Trump. If is the case, Clinton would have won the 2016 election pretty handily. Based on her voting record and campaign promises she represented herself as a center-right Democrat. If you think she was a proponent left-wing policies you are completely disingenuous. The reason she lost wasn’t because of her positions, scandals, poor campaign strategy, …etc, it was because she was a woman. There is a very high likelihood of the US economy falling into a recession as explain… Read more »

It’s INFRINGEMENT ! It has to stop. 2A says so!

Oldvet,your are right.

Good article but it lacked bringing Trump and the NRA deeper into the fold where they belong. As I’ve said before Trump will have to pull off a big one in the next two years to regain his rightful place in the conservative heart. He has done a lot but his attacks on the 2A have put two big black marks on his approval. He has done more against the 2A than Obumer did in 8 years. In one way that makes him a bigger loser than the kenyon. He may get the next election by default because the idiots… Read more »

Mark, you are 100% right side far as you go.
But it could also go much worse in many other ways.

Prediction — N.R.A. seen by millions to be ” compromised ” , as shown by its support for RED FLAG laws , on top of the Bump-Stack cave-in. ( They will whine, beg for money and be replaced by better options )
Trump will be questioned about his 2-A flip flops by voters.

The Green Watch Dog

Don’t see it this way. The NRA’s membership has increased significantly the last few years, and it expected to grow more. Gun right activist need to support organizations such as this one, and be more involved in the decision making process.

Another well written article Mark, thank you.

Mark Walters,You are a breathe of Fresh Air in today`s Constitutional hating times. You are a Voice for sane and law abiding citizens! When Trump won the 2016 election, America won the Super Bowl of the World. In time as his policies elevate this Great Nation, even the most negative individuals will realize that he was the Right Choice! Thanks Kevin.

My prediction – Trump will leave 2nd Amendment proponents twisting in the wind as he incrementally destroys our rights, having already demonstrated that he neither understands nor cares about them. The NRA will assist in this endeavor as the 2nd dies from a thousand tiny cuts. A little compromise here, give a little to the gun grabbers there, let ’em have bump stocks, give in on red flag seizures, so what if we’re limited to 10 round mags, who needs enhanced triggers, the Founding Fathers never intended for citizens to have “assault rifles” … suddenly we’re disarmed and helpless as… Read more »

Your Absolutely correct the reality is trump did this as a knee jerk political move and he will do it again before the 2020 election so look to the source he made this call as a distraction the democrats can not make a move on gun laws without the republicans that’s a simple FACT!

Kevin Meyer

Mark,You are a breathe of fresh air. A voice for law abiding sane individuals. Keep up the Great Work in these Constitutional hate filled times. When Trump won i2016,America won The Super Bowl of the World. In time, as his policies now and in the future take hold, the doubters will come to realize that he was the right choice. Thank you Kevin!

The other Jim

@Gas Block,
I’ll never forget that one ever.

John

The NRA statement as referred to in the article has cost the Association monetarily, in that Members looked to other organizations, associations, foundations to divert what was normally NRA support monies.

The NRA has faught a good fight in a majority of cases, recently achieving a big win in the Southern District of CA.

The take away, the NRA and President Trump, while stepping on their peckers relative to Bump Stocks, we are better off with them as opposed to the likes of a Clinton or worse, the stupid one from NY, Cortez.

GRANT

MAYBE A REVOLUTION IS IN ORDER!!!

Wild Bill

@Grant, What is your plan? Where is the first formation? Where are you going to get the logistics? Whomever revolts first will be crushed by the federal government. If we can get the libtards to revolt first, then we can help “restore order”.
Why don’t you take all that enthusiasm and energy and put them to use by supporting a “not corrupted yet” candidate and defeat the party hack in the next primary. Only we can drain the legislative swamp.

Daniel L Yett

Dems ran a centrist last time and barely won the popular vote. They need someone who’s passionate about policies similar to (and including) social security, medicare, and medicaid (policies to help the common people, NOT the elites). Remember, during the primaries trump ran on and bragged about NOT defunding those programs and he wiped the floor with the other republicans.

Clark Kent

Stick to predicting lottery numbers, Mark. You will have better luck.

And your cogent comment has added remarkably to this discussion…..maybe not. You might have pointed out how Trump, who campaigned on his support for the Second Amendment, has turned out to be, in fact, the most anti-gun President we’ve had in the past 20 years…….but you didn’t. You might have pointed out his comment “take the guns now we’ll deal with the courts later”…….but you didn’t. You might have pointed out his comment “reciprocity is dead”, six months after being inaugurated, after campaigning for it for a year…..but you didn’t. You might have suggested that the GOP desperately needs, and… Read more »

Creating hundreds of thousands of well armed “felons” out of thin air who are understandably pissed at the government is more than bad policy. Much, much more.

No

Trump has done alot. Not that I agree with everything. These are my opinions only. The bump stock ban is totally unlawful with regard to the 2nd amendment. The extra hoops and cash needed for fully automatic fire are totally unlawful also. A right to self defense/self preservation is natural basic right. No one should die because there are mentally ill/evil people out there. A good guy with a gun is the only way to stop a bad guy with a gun. You must look out for your own safety due to the nature of the situation that we live… Read more »

I really have a hard time getting past the statement “Take the guns first, go through due process second,.” — Donald J. Trump 2/28/2018

ras

Gas Block, I agree with you 100%. That is why I told Trump fund raisers on the phone they would get no money from my wife and I until Trump takes that statement back. Also his position on bump stocks.

spot on, correct

Then maybe SCOTUS, the Superior court needs to focus more on the second amendment, and set edicts for the inferior courts of the land regarding the second amendment, not allowing them to haphazardly re-interpret “ A Well Regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.” For we are a Republic, not a democracy as many would like us to believe.
