My kit consists of one small bottle of clear iodine, one pack of Quick Clot, one maxi-pad, and a small roll of duct tape.

Tourniquet, package of minimum 4×4 gauze squares with roll of duct tape for use as a pressure bandage or Israeli bandage, roll of gauze, sturdy container of petroleum jelly and a triangle bandage (maybe) is all you really need. All the other “stuff” will be lost or mangled the first time you go digging through it. Learn to innovate and learn to use items from the environment and other items in your pack out. You are right. Talk to the experts, those who daily deal with medical emergencies, your local EMT, they too will convey half the crap in these kits are filler, a bullet point for a marketing scheme. Hell look at the first bullet points in the “add”, more is given about the case and colors than contents of worth.


Right on the money, so to speak. I made mine years ago and, with just a few upgrades, as wound technology has advanced, it’s lasted me very well. Keep one in the car and one at home.

Great looking first aid kit! I compared it to my $35. USMC IFAK. Same contents except the Marine IFAK comes with a tourniquet.
