Denver, CO – -(AmmoLand.com)- Save the Second (STS) is sending out surveys to all 76 National Rifle Association Board Members today.
These surveys present 10 questions that are of keen interest and importance to the vast majority of American Gun Owners who are concerned about the current state of the NRA, it’s future and the role it should play in defending Second Amendment Rights in the future.
Nine of the questions ask for “Yes” or “No” answers and are intended to determine clearly where an individual Board Member stands on a variety of issues.
“There will come a time that Board Members will need to choose between what is right and what is easy,” said Andy Lander, former NRA employee and STS Board Member.
The Surveys are being sent in several ways, including traditional and electronic mail, in order to ensure that all Board Members receive at least one copy along with the instructions for completing and returning the survey. STS will be sharing the responses with American Gun Owners before the end of the month. Board Members are being asked to return the surveys within two weeks of receiving them.
“I’m concerned that many of the Directors may refuse to respond,” said STS President Anthony Garcia, “but I think that would speak every bit as much as if they had actually returned the survey.”
Many current and former NRA Members feel that most Board Members are out of touch with American Gun Owners and not representing them or their concerns responsibly.
In April, at the Annual NRA Members’ Meeting, several Board Members took time on the microphones to chastise members who were expressing concerns about the current state of the organization & its leadership.
Ron Carter, STS Board Member and one of the concerned NRA Members who stood up to challenge the status quo in Indianapolis said “We must have accountability and transparency from the Board. This survey can help with both.”
Another former NRA Employee and STS Board Member, Steve Hoback, who did much of the work crafting the questions in the Survey offered this challenge to the NRA Directors:
“In the shadow of our Nation’s 243rd Birthday, are YOU willing to stand up and call for reforms at our National Rifle Association? Or, are you content to sit back idly while American Gun Owners lose faith in the NRA?”
Stay tuned for continued updates.

About Save the Second
Save the Second, a non-profit organization, was formed in June of 2019 to represent the concerns of NRA Members, as well as former and potential NRA Members, who believe that the leadership and strategies of the NRA have failed and that the organization needs to be reformed in order to effectively represent American Gun Owners and their concerns. STS has proposed Five Points of Reform at their website savethe2a.org for consideration to improve the NRA.

So, why isn’t this survey being sent to all 5+ year members, who are eligible to vote? The NRA board is rigged, but rigging boards of directors is not even difficult as the principles are well understood. Literally thousands of American corporate boards are rigged utilizing nominating committees, the tendency to vote for celebrity, the tendency of not voting if one even vaguely approves of the status quo, and rewarding those board members, who cooperate. NRA is no different.
Wasted effort. In the 1990s Neal Knox and a band of reformers tried to rescue the NRA. In 1997 they lost a Board vote to replace Mr. LaPierre by 32-33 and by 2000 they were all gone from the NRA Board. The problem is twofold. (1) Wayne, who believes he is King for Life and not an employee, and (2) The post-2000 Board, led by Wayne’s sycophants, who have ignored many “red flags” and blessed his coronation as King of the NRA. They deserve the primary blame because it is their JOB to evaluate, judge, and discipline the EVP. Not… Read more »
The NRA is a members organization and we don’t have to have someone tell us how to vote and I don’t believe anyone is worth $5,000,000 a year to head our organization or even over $1,000,000 to be a lobbyist , that money should be going to programs promoting gun safety and respect lfor our heritage.
I don’t see how the NRA as an effective organization can exist with Wayne in control. I also don’t see how the NRA can be as effective as it really needs to be with those on the Board not recognizing and admitting to the failures of Wayne and how he has mismanaged the NRA.. There needs to be a house cleaning, we need a lean mean fighting machine to oppose those who want to destroy the 2nd. More grassroots and a lot less overpaid staff. I am a Patron Level member #4875884, I have donated in the past somewhere near… Read more »
Let us see the survey.
Handle it like a stockholders meeting. Make it public. Have Wayne and his minions there to answer to the BOD and the ENTIRE MEMBERSHIP. Let the chips fall where they may. Above all, STOP THE CASH FLOW! Cut them off at the wallet.
Where’s the survey? I want to know what questions are being asked!
From all the attention the NRA is receiving by current and former members on the internet and national news, the gun hating crowd and such are back slapping each other and laughing at the NRA and gun owners. What really bothers me is airing our (NRA) dirty laundry in public. I am a life member and have been a member for close to 50 years and tears run down my cheeks as I read some of the terrible comments about MY beloved NRA. I do believe that there are problems within, and pray that we do not lose our strength… Read more »
Ooh, a survey! That’ll be really effective in solving anything. How ’bout a spelling bee instead? That’ll work just a well. LaPierre controls the board, who can be elected and serve and more than likely has the vote tallied before the ballots are even printed up. Folks the NRA is going down thanks to LaPierre and his bought and paid for sycophants. YOU can do nothing as members except continue to fund this LaPierre led fiasco. It is like a terminally ill friend or relative that you have watched slowly dying, knowing there is nothing you can do to save… Read more »
I have been a live member since the mid ’70s. I have watched the NRA morph into a circus that uses fear-mongering to raise truckloads of money, little of which seems to go to firearm training and restoring/defending our gun rights. Ultimately, I do not blame the top leadership or the Board of Directors. I blame NRA members who persistently elect and reelect board members who refuse to restore the NRA’s core goals: firearm training and restoration and defense of gun rights. I also blame America’s gun owners who are too cheap, too lazy, or too self-righteous to become dues-paying,… Read more »
