NJ Gov Murphy To Sign Executive Order Targeting Gun Mfg's, Banking & Insurance Industry

New Jersey – -(AmmoLand.com)- This week Governor Murphy will be signing an executive order that will target gun dealers, manufacturers, distributors, and insurance companies that offer legal and financial assistance to those who cannot afford adequate legal representation.

Calling “gun violence” a public health crisis in New Jersey, Governor Murphy’s executive order intends to make sure that “public safety principles related to firearms” include the following:

  • a. That retail dealers of firearms have policies that prevent and detect straw purchasing and firearm trafficking; prevent the sale of firearms to prohibited individuals; to protect against theft of firearms and ammunition; to train their staff to ensure maximum compliance with the law and requirements; to assist law enforcement in the investigation and prevention of criminal access to guns; and to promote public safety.
  • b. manufacturers of firearms are required to have similar standards as well.

Governor Murphy will direct the Division of Purchase and Property to request all State vendors ascertain whether these practices are being adhered to prior to awarding a contract. The Division of Purchase and Property will have 30 days to satisfy this request.

The Treasurer is instructed to issue a request to financial institutions that provide services to the Department of Treasury to disclose whether they have adopted code of conduct or related to gun safety or responsible sales of firearms. The Treasurer will also be required to conduct this inquiry within 30 days.

Lastly, the Commissioner of Banking and Insurance will be instructed to use her full authority to review insurance programs that provide legal services to those that cannot afford adequate legal presentation and will attempt to ban the sale of said policies in NJ or heavily regulate them.

This is a developing story and will be updated as more information becomes available.

Wow, what a pandering line of BS. Any gun dealer has to have the purchaser fill out ATF form 4473 which covers most of the items in the first paragraph. I’m pretty sure stores lock their doors at the end of the business day to prevent theft, so what is he talking about? And ‘promote public safety’? And as pointed out in comments below, LEOs may be prohibited from possession of firearms, how do they address that? As usual, when politicians get involved in something they are ignorant about, and are looking to simply ‘do something’ to garner votes, they… Read more »

Well, since the police have officers that have committed crimes, does this governor believe that in order to protect the citizens of New Jersey, and himself, that his officers should be disbarred the use of all arms? We would not want any innocent people being harmed by the criminal use of their firearms. Does he believe in “gun safety” or citizen disarmament? New Jersey bans private citizens from using HP rounds because they are supposedly “more deadly” than ball ammo, but those same dangerous rounds are used by their officers. So obviously the politicians believe that the police should be… Read more »

All dealers of guns, ammunition, accessories and gun smithing services need to get together and boycott these repressive States and the Gestapo law enforcement agencies within them! You all should take a lesson from Ronnie Barrett!
As Samuel Adams stated 200+years ago…” If ye love wealth better than liberty, the tranquility of servitude over t(e animating contest of freedom.

OK, so, straw purchases are already covered by federal law. Federal Firearms Licensed Dealers are already under the onus to prevent them. And insurance policies designed to insure people who cannot afford legal representation are now under sanction? He folks, how many of you have the cash on hand to defend a wrongful death lawsuit should you accidentally rear end someone on your way to your 42K a year job? Think on that one. What we really have here are a set of solutions in search of a problem. The problem as Der Fuhrer Murphy sees it is too many… Read more »

I think it’s time to declare the Democrat Party a domestic terrorist organization. What else can you call an organization that repeatedly and pervasively attacks the rights and resources of honest, law abiding, working citizens?
