Monday night, the Indianapolis City-County Council passed a proposed gun control measure by a vote of 18 to 5. Rather than addressing crime and prosecuting criminals, Mayor Hogsett and the City-County Council are focused on disarming law-abiding citizens and attempting to violate preemption with a gun control package that they admit is “unenforceable.” The ordinance discriminates against young adults aged 18-20 by prohibiting them from buying firearms, ends constitutional carry, and bans many common semi-automatic firearms. In 2011, NRA worked with the General Assembly to pass a preemption law preventing localities from passing and enforcing their own gun control. The Council has admitted that this proposal cannot take effect as long as preemption is still the law in Indiana.

NRA will keep you informed about any continued efforts to restrict Second Amendment rights.

Time to strip Qualified Immunity from politicians who are either too stupid to understand the Constitution or just don’t care. Sue the pants off of this mayor and this crap will go away.

Pols want to take QI from law enforcement. I say, give up the pols QI first then we’ll talk about the police.

This does reveal the main weakness with pretty much all state preemption laws: they lack teeth. They should carry criminal penalties for those who knowingly violate them. These people want to live in a place where guns are forbidden? They should love prison then.

Florida’s preemption law levies penalties for politicians and local governments that attempt the sort of thing that Indianapolis has just done. Prohibiting behavior without assessing penalties on those who defy the prohibition is akin to pissing into the wind. http://www.leg.state.fl.us/statutes/index.cfm?App_mode=Display_Statute&URL=0700-0799/0790/Sections/0790.33.html (c) If the court determines that a violation was knowing and willful, the court shall assess a civil fine of up to $5,000 against the elected or appointed local government official or officials or administrative agency head under whose jurisdiction the violation occurred. (d) Except as required by applicable law, public funds may not be used to defend or reimburse the unlawful… Read more »

Dumb ass politicians making dumb ass decisions. They just can’t help it.

Monkey Mouse

Bet the crime problem there gets a lot worse.

the city-county council passes an ordinance that violated state law and knew that the ordinance couldn’t be enforced because of state law?
this is a great representation of the dichotomy of the leftist mindset.
also a great campaign ad for someone running against one of these useless idiots.

Indianapolis has an out of touch, clueless mayor and an even worse Republican opponent in the upcoming election. The Republican, much like Hogsett cannot put together a coherent sentence, isn’t capable of original thought, is also on record as wanting MORE gun control. Neither has a real plan for addressing the root causes of Indy’s problems – namely gangs, rampant drug sales and human trafficking. In other words, it matters not who you vote for, neither is interested in doing anything of any substance.

F tyrants! F tyranny! We, The People, will NOT comply.

Politicians work FOR us. THEY must comply, or be dra66ed out.

You’re kidding! Mayor Hogsett? Man, I’d bet Hogshead had a tough time in school. And they know Indiana has a preemptive 2A law, but passed their anti 2A law anyway. These people are slow on the uptake.

ALL GUN LAWS ARE INFRINGEMENTS

More wasted tax dollars passing illegal laws that will shot down! This is how libtards/DemTards work…..just waste time & money when they could be locking up criminals! Do they know what preemption even means?
