White River Energetics (WRE), a leading manufacturer of ammunition primers, is expanding its Des Arc, Arkansas facility with a $70 million investment, creating 100 new jobs. The announcement was made by Arkansas Governor Sarah Huckabee Sanders at a press conference on Friday.
WRE’s expansion will include adding 90,000 square feet to its current 14,000-square-foot facility and constructing a new smokeless propellant factory.
The $60 million propellant factory aims to address the global shortage of smokeless propellants affecting ammunition availability.
Governor Sanders praised the project, noting that it will bring significant job opportunities to the community. “This $70 million investment in a small town will have a big impact,” she said.
The expansion will allow WRE to increase production of ammunition primers and energetics for both domestic and international clients. Vice President of Operations BJ Rogers expressed pride in growing the business in his hometown of Des Arc.
“Having grown up here, I’m proud to see the success we’ve achieved with primers, and I’m excited for the future,” he stated.
Des Arc Mayor Roger Scott also highlighted the positive impact the expansion will have on the local economy.
“WRE is a remarkable asset to our community, providing jobs and supporting local activities,” Scott said.
The new positions are now open for applicants, with construction expected to be completed by early 2026. This expansion solidifies Arkansas’s growing role in the firearms and ammunition industry, a sector Governor Sanders emphasized is backed by strong support for the Second Amendment.

Over the years I’ve either used or seen primers labeled Winchester, Remington, Federal, CCI, Fiocchi, S&B, Wolf, Cheddite, and a few others . . . but this is the first I’ve heard of this company. What makes them “a leading manufacturer?”

When the US is happy with the amount of primers it has for a reasonable price, then take care of the other countries and for God sakes make sure they don’t wind up in countries that hate us!
