In an early morning incident on October 12, a Poplar Bluff woman acted in self-defense when she shot a man allegedly attempting to climb through her bedroom window.
The suspect, identified as 24-year-old Rondriguez Hopkins, was shot in the shoulder and hand after he reportedly tried to enter the woman’s home through a window around 5:50 a.m. The incident took place in the 600 block of Victor Street.

According to the Poplar Bluff Police Department, officers arrived at the scene shortly after the shooting was reported. The homeowner stated that she fired at Hopkins after he began entering her window. A search of the area led officers to find Hopkins a block away, wounded but still mobile.
Hopkins was initially treated at a Poplar Bluff hospital before being transferred to a hospital in Cape Girardeau. Upon his release from medical care, he was arrested and taken to the Butler County Justice Center. Police confirmed that no charges are being filed against the woman who shot him, as her actions are considered justified self-defense.
This wasn’t Hopkins’ first run-in with the law. Court documents revealed that in 2022, he was caught on camera attempting to break into other homes in the area.
Hopkins is scheduled to appear in court on October 15, where formal charges are expected to be filed against him.
For now, the woman remains free from any charges, reinforcing Missouri’s strong stance on the right to defend oneself when faced with imminent danger.

From the look on his face, the young man does not view this as a life altering event. While her two shots did dissuade him from entry into her home, he likely will be trying these activities again in the future. She has given him street cred with his group as he has now ridden the lead locomotive and survived it.
Please, someone get the lady to a range and a competent instructor so that in the event of a repeat performance, her hits are more COM.
Too bad the woman didn’t deliver a Taxpayer Relief Shot and render that POS DRT.
