Charges Dropped in Miramar, FL Walgreens Shooting: Prosecutors Say Armed Citizen Acted in Self-Defense ~ VIDEO

Miramar, FL —  A concealed carry permit holder who shot and killed a man inside a Walgreens in Miramar earlier this year will face no criminal charges. After a thorough review of the evidence, the Broward State Attorney’s Office determined that 28-year-old Jamie Taylor acted in lawful self-defense under Florida’s Stand Your Ground law.

The shooting occurred on February 3, 2025, inside the Walgreens at 2499 SW 101st Avenue. Taylor, a former high school football standout and college athlete, said he was simply shopping when a stranger—27-year-old Anthony Souvenir—became aggressive over what Taylor described as a perceived slight involving Souvenir’s girlfriend.

“He walked by me and said something, then came all the way back to the front of the store and told me, ‘I’m gonna show you,’” Taylor recalled. “That’s when he pulled a gun, and I shot to protect myself.”

Security footage from inside the store, which prosecutors reviewed but have not released to the public, reportedly corroborated Taylor’s account. Witnesses—including a store cashier—told police Souvenir was the aggressor and confirmed that both men acknowledged being armed during the confrontation. Taylor fired two shots; Souvenir got off one round before collapsing.

Taylor held a valid concealed carry permit and had no criminal record. According to his attorneys, Souvenir could not legally carry a firearm due to his criminal history.

Taylor’s lawyer, Andrew Rier, said the case was clear-cut. “This was a justifiable homicide. Jamie did not want this. But if he hadn’t defended himself, he wouldn’t be here.”

Initially arrested and charged with manslaughter, Taylor cooperated fully with investigators from the start. He waived his Miranda rights and answered police questions without legal counsel, confident that he had done nothing wrong.

Now a free man, Taylor is trying to move on with his life. “I’m just thankful I get to be with my daughter,” he said during a press conference. “I’m sorry for the loss and I pray for their family—but I had no choice. It was kill or be killed.”

Souvenir’s family, however, remains heartbroken and unconvinced. His mother, Linda, called the decision not to prosecute “a second death” and has demanded the release of the surveillance footage.

“We want the public to see what really happened,” she said. “My son didn’t deserve to die like that.”

The case once again highlights Florida’s Stand Your Ground law, which protects individuals who use deadly force if they reasonably believe they are in imminent danger of death or great bodily harm. While controversial in some circles, the law has repeatedly shielded law-abiding gun owners who act to defend themselves from violent threats.

Taylor says he now plans to return to college and focus on raising his daughter. “I never wanted to take a life,” he said. “But I’m grateful the law protected my right to defend my own.”

This self-defense shooting reflects the ongoing reality that lawful gun owners often find themselves forced to make life-or-death decisions in an instant. As always, AmmoLand News supports the responsible and informed exercise of Second Amendment rights. Stay heavily armed and very dangerous.

Then her punk ass gangsta wannabe son with a criminal history shouldn’t have been carrying a gun. That’s what really happened.

Here we go again with the…”my son was such a nice guy, he did not do anything wrong, he did not deserve to die like this….” . You mean the thug that pulled a gun on someone and tried to murder them, that nice guy ? Raise your kid with some common decency, morals, respect, and value for human life, and maybe he would not be 6 feet under.

Duane

No mother should have to worry about her criminal son not coming home. /S/

IMOA, bad decision to answer LE questions without his lawyer present.
