There’s no common sense when it comes to firearm legislation. The term “common sense” is a nomenclature used for the purpose of shaming, otherwise rational people into supporting unconstitutional and most often dangerous gun laws. This type of propaganda is very misleading, and the anti-gun crowd is guilty of using it frequently. A nomenclature can refer to the act of naming, a name itself, and even a system of names.
When adding “common sense” to “gun legislation,” the intent is to change the meaning of gun legislation. “Common sense” is an adjective, but when the anti-gun crowd uses it in this way, it is an attempt at skewing the meaning of the noun itself. After hearing the term “common sense gun legislation,” you are to assume that all gun legislation is “sensible.”
You hear it all the time, groups like Moms Demand Action, Everytown for Gun Safety, and the Gifford group beat the drum of so-called “common sense” legislation. When the average person hears the term common sense, they assume that the topic at hand is reasonable, makes logical sense, and most people agree with it.
The truth is, gun laws have never made sense, although the narrative is created to make you believe so. In reality, those who are subject to strict gun control laws are much more vulnerable to violent attacks.
The gun grabbers will tell you that legislation limiting you to a bolt-action rifle is “common sense,” even if you must defend yourself against multiple attackers. They’ll tell you that legislation that forces you to keep your firearms locked in a safe is “common sense” and safer for you and your family. Never mentioning the disastrous effects storage laws have on a person’s ability to defend themselves. They want you to believe that it’s “common sense” to have what they call “universal background checks” for all law-abiding gun owners, while the bad guys avoid background checks altogether.
They’ll tell you that gun free zones are “common sense” laws that will keep people safe, even though 94% of violent attacks occur in gun free zones. They will tell you that the reason there’s so much violence in Democrat run cities that have the highest level of gun control laws is because we need more of the same gun laws to keep you safe. Because, well….“Common sense.”
The truth is, people want to believe that they are making good choices and that they are sensible in their decisions. Nobody wants to think they lack sensibility. That’s why the term “common sense” is used when convincing people to give up their rights and support dangerous gun laws. It’s an easy way to convince people and coerce them into doing things that they might not otherwise do if they had accurate information. It plays directly to a person’s need to believe they are smart. This is a typical marketing strategy when selling products.
Ask yourself, does it really make sense to lock up all your firearms so they’re inaccessible to you in a time of emergency? Does it really make sense to disarm teachers and staff and make them vulnerable on school campus after knowing that killers go there specifically because there will be no armed opposition? Does it really make sense to leave your firearm at home locked in a safe before going into the most dangerous part of town?
Gun laws make no sense, but if a portion of society can be fed enough propaganda to keep them in a fearful state, with very limited knowledge of firearms and a desire to feel morally superior to others, convincing them to support “common sense” gun legislation is not that difficult. Remember, they’re told that they’re making decisions that others are not smart enough to make for themselves. That makes the most insecure among us feel good. Many gun control supporters believe that they are doing the right thing because that is what they’re conditioned to believe. They’re also told that they are much more intelligent than everyone else because they have been given information that they believe to be true.
Given this new moral and intellectual superiority complex that the gun-grabbing gals over at Moms Demand Action have developed, they are much more reluctant to seek out contradicting information and data. How could their position on gun control ever be wrong? They supported “common sense” firearm legislation.
The anti-gun lobby uses the term “common sense” as a tool to get you on board with violating the rights of your fellow citizens and supporting legislation that puts people in danger. But for those who drink the anti-gun Kool-Aid, they will go as far as using the deaths that occur because of legislation that they help create to push for even more of the same unconstitutional and dangerous gun laws. To them, this makes sense because their goal is not to save lives or keep people safe. The goal of the anti-gun politicians and lobby groups is to disarm their political opposition. The goal of their followers is to earn a seat at the popular table.
Gun control advocacy comes with a side order of brainwashing because once you are able to see the dangers behind gun laws, and the manipulating nature of anti-gun propaganda, logical thinking people begin to reject the entire anti-gun fear campaign. Not only do they reject it, but once their eyes are opened to it, they become some of the strongest Second Amendment advocates ever. That is, if they’re not completely consumed by their political ideology.
Making people unarmed and helpless is not “common sense,” it’s inhumane.

It’s been said before. Gun control is not about guns, so much as it is about control. Liberal progressives want to control every aspect of our lives, and they know that an unarmed population is much easier to control.

I ‘invented’ a saying decades ago: “common sense isn’t” – if I have to ‘splain it ya ain’t paying attention.
One challenge to the ‘more gun laws’ crowd is to ask them which of the currently existing ‘gun control’ laws isn’t based on common sense and which are really effective.
We can also point out that every single one of the killers had broken numerous ‘gun control’ laws prior to shooting the first victim.
