YouTube Backs Down on Political Speech Bans — But What About Gun Channels?

Washington, D.C. – YouTube has agreed to reinstate creators who were previously banned from posting content on COVID-19 or elections, following intense pressure from House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jim Jordan (R-OH). The move represents a major victory for free speech advocates—but raises a glaring question: why doesn’t the same principle apply to lawful Second Amendment content?

Rep. Jordan celebrated the reversal on social media, declaring:

“BREAKING: Due to our oversight efforts, GOOGLE commits to offer ALL creators previously kicked off YouTube due to political speech violations to return to the platform. BUT THAT’S NOT ALL.” — [Jim Jordan on X]

A Shift Under Oversight

Alphabet, YouTube’s parent company, admitted in a letter to Jordan’s committee that the Biden administration pressured the company to remove content that did not violate YouTube’s own rules. The attorneys called that pressure “unacceptable and wrong,” and pledged that “no matter the political atmosphere, YouTube will continue to enable free expression on its platform, particularly as it relates to issues subject to political debate.”

For Jordan, the admission is proof that years of oversight are paying off. “No more telling Americans what to believe and not believe,” he wrote, calling the concessions “MASSIVE wins for the American people, the First Amendment, and freedom.”

The Double Standard on Guns

But while political speech is being restored, firearm creators remain under siege. As AmmoLand News has reported, YouTube has repeatedly cracked down on gun channels—age-restricting, demonetizing, and even deleting videos that depict lawful activity. Videos showing suppressors, 3D-printed firearms, or even standard-capacity magazines are throttled out of recommendations, while Hollywood and legacy media enjoy exemptions under “public interest” carveouts.

Gun Owners of America condemned these policies last year, with Erich Pratt warning:

“Restricting access to adults only—for content that depicts wholly legal and constitutionally-protected activity—is wrong, and it aims to push a sinister narrative to minors that firearms are evil.”

Likewise, the American Suppressor Association sounded alarms after educational suppressor content was purged, threatening entire channels built over years of work.

The Principle Is the Same

If YouTube admits it wrongfully censored political speech under government pressure, the same principle must apply to lawful Second Amendment speech. Firearm education, training, and advocacy are just as protected under the Constitution as debates about elections and health policy. By continuing to single out gun content, YouTube is propping up a double standard that hurts pro-2A voices while protecting corporate media.

The Second Amendment Gets Second-Hand Treatment

Alphabet has not yet explained how reinstatement will work or who qualifies. For now, the concession of political speech is a breakthrough. But unless Congress and free speech advocates push further, gun creators could remain locked out of full participation on the world’s largest video platform.

For pro-gun Americans, the message is clear: the fight is far from over. If YouTube can roll back censorship of political speech, it can—and must—do the same for lawful firearms content.

Has anyone reached out to Rep. Jordan about the ongoing attack on guntubers’ 1A rights? Have guntubers coordinated among themselves to collectively & unanimously pressure the House Judiciary Committee to include all 2A content creators into this 1A concession?

If we do not apply unyielding pressure constantly, Congress WILL forget!

Gun related channels ARE political speech. They are PRO 2A speech.

Liberty's Advocate

Maybe it’s time to disarm and deport Liberals. The only problem would be in finding any sensible, friendly countries to accept our export of Liberalism.
