U.S. SENATE –-(Ammoland.com)- Senator Jon Tester today released the following statement after the Outdoor Industry Association announced that outdoor recreation [including shooting sports] creates 64,000 jobs in the Big Sky State and contributes nearly $6 billion to Montana’s economy, doubling the $3 billion amount found by previous studies:

“This report shows that smart policies and investments in our land and waters are strengthening Montana’s economy.”

“Montanans grow up learning to fish, hunt and enjoy our state’s great outdoors, so it’s no surprise that our outdoor traditions are creating thousands of jobs and supporting hundreds of Montana communities. It’s clear that preserving our outdoor heritage for our kids and grandkids not only preserves our way of life, but also improves our quality of life.”

The Outdoor Industry Association this week also reported that nearly three in four Montanans take part in outdoor recreation each year. Outdoor recreation also generates more than four hundred million dollars in state and local tax revenue.

Tester, former Chairman of the Congressional Sportsmen’s Caucus, was the main sponsor of last year’s Sportsmen’s Act. The bill increased access for hunting and fishing, supported land and species conservation, and protected hunting and fishing rights.
