Elsberry, MO –-(Ammoland.com)-  When you are out hunting with man’s best friend, make sure he stays nice and warm. To help keep your retriever warm from the cold waters of late season hunting, you may want to look at the Avery Boater’s Dog Parka.

The fit in a dog vest is extremely important; if it doesn’t fit the dog tightly it lets the heat out and is basically useless. The reason I purchased the Avery Boater’s Dog Parka is because it comes in 5 sizes including XS which fits my English Cocker Spaniel, Boscoe, nicely. Make sure to measure your dog before making a purchase.

The Avery Boater’s Dog Parka is made out of 5mm neoprene and has a DuraStretch fabric for years of service in thick cover.  The double bar tack seams ensure the vest wont come apart at the seams very easily. The vest itself is glued and stitched just like waders are.

Besides keeping the dog warm, the Avery Boater’s Dog Parka has some hunter and dog friendly features.  The vest comes with 16 cubic inches of closed cell foam insulation to help your dog stay afloat. The vest also has sewn in D-rings that allow you to attach a leash.

Putting the vest on the dog is also very easy; it features a #10 molded zipper that is easy to operate with gloves on and has a one-inch Velcro strip to tighten the vest on the torso.

The feature that helps the Avery Boater’s Dog Parka stand out is the grab handles. Located on the top of the vest, this allows the hunter to grab the vest and lift the dog into a boat or higher platform. Since I hunt with a smaller dog this is a nice feature to have.

The Avery Boater’s Dog Parka comes in a few different camo patterns including the Killer Weed pattern that I have. I purchased this vest from Gun Dog Supply for $45.

The vest does what I need it to do, keep my dog nice and toasty and protected on those cold days.

  • Quality: The stitching and attention to detail really add to the quality of the vest.
  • Reliability:  I have only had this for one season, but haven’t seen any major issues with it yet.
  • Price/Value: For $45 it’s a well priced dog vest.
  • Referability:  If you are a hunter that needs to keep your dog warm, this is a good vest to own. You may not need the grab handles, but its not a bad feature to have.
