Late Friday night, April 12th, 2024, the Maine Senate passed a number of extreme anti-gun bills.
These bills included 72-hour waiting periods on firearm purchases and transfers, redefining semi-automatic firearms as “machine guns,” and implementing universal background check laws in Maine.
These bills undermine Mainers’ constitutional rights and would destroy Maine’s robust firearm and hunting tourism industries. Despite these facts, several rural lawmakers voted FOR Michael Bloomberg’s gun control bills in Maine. NRA members and gun rights supporters are encouraged to contact these lawmakers NOW and express their concerns regarding these votes.
- Senate President Troy Jackson (D- Aroostook): (207) 436-0763
- Senator Tim Nangle (D- Cumberland): (207) 650-4407
- Senator Chip Curry (D- Waldo): (207) 323-9976
- Senator Cameron Reny (D-Lincoln): (207) 287-1515
- Senator Dave LaFountain (D-Kennebec): (207) 873-5995
- Senator Mike Tipping (D-Penobscot): (207) 287-1515
Join fellow Maine gun owners at the State House for a lobby day on Monday, April 15th (Patriot’s Day), for a “Lobby Day” to talk to lawmakers about the dangers of Michael Bloomberg’s gun control agenda.
Anti-gun advocates have called the Lewiston tragedy a “golden opportunity” and their last chance to pass their radical gun control demands in Maine. We’ve beaten Bloomberg before, and we can do it again, but we NEED YOU TO SHOW UP and have your VOICE HEARD.
State House Doors open at 8; they will be in session starting *around* 10; we need you to talk to our legislators and educate them on why these gun bills are bad for Maine. Drop in and stay as long as you can, even if you just make face-to-face contact with a single legislator that’s important. If you can’t come in person, please see the above for contact information on specific legislators that need to hear from the gun-owning community.
- Talking points for waiting periods can be found here.
- Talking points for background checks can be found here.

I hope this garbage is defeated. Such a pity that Northeastern bastions of gun rights like Vermont, New Hampshire, and Maine, circle the bowl on their way down to meet their neighbor states.
If this garbage of anti gun bills passes and then Maine will be off the list for relocating from Commie Connecticut!!!
The only good Communist is Maine…
Surprising that they give their police “machine guns.” Seems like overkill.
I was considering moving from Wyoming to Aroostook county/burrough in Maine for my retirement, because of all the fishing opportunities; as I can no longer hunt by myself for my beloved elk, mule deer, and speed goats.
However, with all the massive totalitarian anti-2A and contra-constitutional laws they are putting in place, I must strike main off my list. It would seem Alaska is my sole option.
Cheers from the Oil Patch in Central Wyoming
