In a harrowing encounter early Sunday morning, a Rancho Cordova man named Robert, 70, was forced to take action to protect his family when a burglar broke into his property.
The incident occurred just after 1 a.m. at a motorcycle parts shop on Folsom Boulevard. Robert, who manages the property and lives in the back quarters, was with his two grandsons, aged 4 and 14, when the break-in occurred.
The Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office reports that the suspect, a man in his 30s, broke into the storefront and attempted to enter the living quarters where Robert and the children were asleep. The 14-year-old grandson woke Robert, warning him of the intruder. Acting quickly, Robert confronted the burglar, who kicked down the door to the living area and advanced toward him.
“If he had run away, I wouldn’t have shot,” Robert told reporters. “But he kept coming at me, and I had no choice. I wasn’t going to let my grandkids get hurt.”
According to investigators, the suspect had a bright light in one hand and a butane torch in the other. Robert, fearing for his life and his family’s safety, fired his gun. The suspect fled but collapsed and died in a nearby parking lot.
Sergeant Amar Gandhi of the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office emphasized the growing frustration among business owners and residents over rising crime. “Victims are tired of being victims,” Gandhi said. “This isn’t about encouraging vigilantism, but Robert showed incredible restraint in a terrifying situation.”
Robert, visibly shaken, said the decision to fire was instinctive. “Every time I think about it, it bothers me,” he admitted. “But in that moment, all I could think about was saving my grandkids.”
Local attorney Justin Ward noted that the shooting is likely to be deemed justified.
“The law doesn’t require someone to gamble on the intentions of an intruder,” he said. “Robert acted reasonably to protect himself and his family.”
No charges are expected against Robert, who has cooperated fully with investigators. The coroner’s office has not yet identified the suspect, who was reportedly unarmed apart from the torch.
Robert expressed relief that his grandchildren were unharmed.
“I wish the man hadn’t broken in,” he said. “But I’m thankful my family is safe. That’s what matters most.”
Analysis:
This incident highlights the importance of self-defense rights, particularly for vulnerable individuals protecting their families. For gun owners, it serves as a powerful example of how the Second Amendment provides the means to safeguard lives in critical moments.

Good for the 70 year old grandfather. His family members are not victims. The dead guy Found Out. Play stupid games, wake up in the spirit world without a physical body and never come back. Ever.
Great shooting…..great shot!
Our victim should get tax free status for life, a new gun,10,000 rounds of ammo and the keys to the city from a grateful public.
Saved tax slaves millions in legal, medical, and incarceration costs. Saved potential future victims and saved idiot judges the embarassment and shame of continually re- releasing the ofal to prey on your children.
Good riddance to foul garbage. FU#K criminals…….piss on it’s grave!!!!
Happy Thanksgiving
Glad the bad guy died
10 minutes away. Might ride over and shake his hand.

I’d like to sit down and have chat with this man and ask him JUST WHAT ARE YOU DOING to reduce/eliminate this sort of threat.
Vigilantism is what the anti-gunners want to call self defense. The anti-gun prosecutors would rather make a plea deal with your murder, than you to defend yourself.
Store break-ins and home invasion will only get worse. Reports vary, but up to 20 million illegals in America due to the Biden Harris administration. Many cities and states call themselves ” sanctuary cities and states”. Many actually encouraged illegals to move to their cities. Illegals arriving in these cities don’t speak English, have little or no education, have no job skills, have 10 to 15 kids, and they go on welfare, collect social security benefits and Medicare and Medicare, and get free hospital care at VA hospitals. Whenever I read about one of these justifiable uses of deadly force in self-defense I find myself wishing that the perps of the world had read them. And taken the lesson to heart. And changed careers. They are the ones who need the lesson. A propane torch? Was he planning to do some plumbing? Lucky the shooter didn’t hit the tank and blow the whole place up, but that’s what these mental midgets who think preying on other people bring to the party. Thank you, Democrats, for making crime legal and profitable; you haven’t just encouraged foreign immigration across the… Read more »
Well, well, well, this guy did everything the right way and put a slug or two in the bad guy. As I have said on way too many occasions ( SLUGS FOR THUGS, and the game goes on) well for many of these street thugs this is all just some sort of game so the more players that get taken out the better it is for the rest of us. This thug did everything exactly wrong, he went into a home with nothing more than a light and a propane torch and left with a few holes in him. SLUGS… Read more »
A brief translation and history of U.S. Corporate Media reporting: When politicians get into trouble and their political affiliation is never mentioned, it is safe to assume democrat. This is simply because if it were republicans involved, this information would be included – likely in the headline and multiple times throughout the articles, just to be certain that this fact stands out clearly. Likewise, when race, color or immigration statis is never mentioned in violent crime reporting, it is usually safe to assume Black or other minority, and/or illegal immigrant status, depending on the location and details of the incidents… Read more »
