The Trump administration has taken another major step in rolling back anti-gun policies left behind by the Biden administration, officially removing a controversial Biden-era public health advisory that falsely classified “gun violence” as a national health crisis.
The move comes as part of President Donald Trump’s sweeping executive order to protect the constitutional rights of law-abiding Americans and undo regulatory overreach that targeted gun owners.
Flawed, Anti-Gun Advisory Scrapped
The Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) confirmed the removal of the advisory, originally issued by former Surgeon General Vivek Murthy—an Obama and Biden appointee—who cited debunked statistics from the Gun Violence Archive (GVA) in his declaration that firearm-related incidents were a public health emergency. The so-called crisis was largely based on massaged data, lumping in gang violence and suicides to inflate numbers and justify more gun control regulations.
A White House official reinforced the administration’s stance, stating that:
…”Illegal violence of any sort is a crime issue, and as he again made clear during his recent speech at the Department of Justice, President Trump is committed to Making America Safe Again by empowering law enforcement to uphold law and order.”
Trump’s Executive Order Targets Biden’s Anti-Gun Agenda
This action follows Trump’s recent executive order directing Attorney General Pam Bondi to review and reverse all Biden-era gun control regulations deemed unconstitutional. The administration has already shut down the White House Office of Gun Violence Prevention—a group heavily influenced by anti-gun lobbyists like Everytown and Giffords—which critics say was used to push firearm restrictions under the guise of “safety.”
Gun rights organizations hailed the move, celebrating it as the beginning of the end for Biden’s gun control efforts.
Aidan Johnston, director of federal affairs for Gun Owners of America, noted that “gun owners fought hard to elect a president who would take a sledgehammer to Biden’s unconstitutional gun control policies, and today, President Trump proved he’s serious about that fight.”
The administration is also requiring the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) to reassess firearm classifications, a move that could lead to overturning rulings such as the short-barreled rifle (SBR) reclassification of braced pistols and restrictions on unfinished frames.
Lies & Manipulation: The Left’s Failed Gun Control Strategy
Gun control activists predictably lashed out, with Giffords Executive Director Emma Brown accusing the Trump administration of prioritizing the firearms industry over “saving lives.” However, as pro-Second Amendment advocates have long pointed out, the entire public health argument for gun control was built on false narratives and fear-mongering.
Biden’s Surgeon General relied on the GVA’s inflated mass shooting statistics—numbers that have been repeatedly debunked. The FBI, which uses a more precise definition of mass shootings, consistently reports numbers far lower than what GVA promotes. Additionally, the often-repeated claim that “guns are the leading cause of child deaths” is another deception, as it misleadingly includes 18- and 19-year-old gang members in its statistics.
Critics of Murthy’s advisory have pointed out that it ignored critical context, such as the number of lives saved annually through defensive gun use. Studies have estimated that defensive firearm use occurs anywhere from 1.67 million to 2.5 million times per year in the U.S., preventing crimes and saving lives—a statistic conspicuously absent from Murthy’s report.
Restoring Common Sense & Constitutional Rights
By dismantling these flawed policies, President Trump is not just following through on his campaign promises—he is reaffirming that the Second Amendment is a right, not a privilege subject to bureaucratic interference. While anti-gun groups will undoubtedly continue their misinformation campaigns, gun owners and freedom-loving Americans have reason to celebrate: their rights are being restored, one unconstitutional policy at a time.

Why doesn’t Trump open the pro 2A equivalent of the White House Office Of Gun Violence Prevention whatever? Maybe a “White House Office For Second Amendment Rights”?
