Maumee, OH –-(Ammoland.com)- The Scholastic Clay Target Program’s (SCTP) Regional High School Tournament ran concurrently with the Scholastic Pistol Program’s (SPP) Midwest Spring Regional this past weekend, April 5th & 6th at the World Shooting and Recreation Complex in Sparta, IL and the event was a huge success.
This was the first of several SCTP/SPP combined regional events that are scheduled for this season throughout the country. Both the SCTP and SPP programs are administered by the Scholastic Shooting Sports Foundation (SSSF).
“Several of the athletes and coaches came up to us and commented on how much they enjoyed the opportunity to be able to compete in both our clay target and pistol programs at the same event,” said Dan Hathaway, Executive Director of the SSSF. “By combining these two disciplines, we’re now able to introduce more young athletes to the shooting sports than ever before, and that’s what the Scholastic Shooting Sports Foundation is all about.”
Results from the SPP Midwest Spring Regional
Squads from four states fought near gale-force winds to compete in the inaugural Scholastic Pistol Program’s (SPP) Midwest Spring Regionals. Squads competed in both Varsity (centerfire) and Junior Varsity (rimfire) divisions.
The Ozaukee (WI) Scholastic Pistol Team took 1st place in the Senior Centerfire Division, followed by the Arnold (MO) Shooters in 2nd and the Burlington (WI) Demons Pistol Shooting Team outshooting Henry County (TN) No Fly Zone for 3rd place.
In the Junior Centerfire Division, the Southern Illinois Lead Slingers took top honors over the Burlington Demons Shooting Team with the Wilmot (WI) placing 3rd. In the Junior Rimfire Division, the Burlington Demons Shooting Team outshot the Arnold Junior Shooters.
“This match was a great way for us to start the season, it allows us to shake the rust off after a long winter,” said Jeremy Krusemark, Burlington Demons head coach and Wisconsin SPP State Advisor. “Based on the amount of interest this match has generated, we expect this shooting season to be very busy”.
The match was staffed by local members of the International Defensive Pistol Association (IDPA) building on their growing relationship with SPP. Also on hand to provide free loaner handguns and instruction where Ed Fitzgerald from GLOCK, Inc. and Tom Yost from Smith & Wesson.

24 squads (283 athletes) competed in Trap, Skeet and Sporting Clays at the Scholastic Clay Target Program’s (SCTP)
Midwest Regional H.S. Tournament. Over 43,000 targets were thrown over the 2 day competition and after the dust had cleared the results were as follows.
For the HOA Awards, The Burlington (WI) HS Demons finished 1st followed by Pinckneyville (IL) H.S. in 2nd and the Kansas City (KS) Crushers placed 3rd.
In Skeet, the Varsity Division Champions were the Kansas City (KS) Crushers followed by the two Clarksville (TN) teams who finished in 2nd and 3rd. The Junior Varsity Champs were The Henry County (TN) No Fly Zone with the Pinckneyville (IL) H.S. team in 2nd and the St. Charles (IL) S.C. team in 3rd. In the Intermediate Division, Henry County (TN) No Fly Zone captured 1st while the Pinckneyville (IL) H.S. squad finished 2nd and the Central Falcons (WI) grabbed 3rd. The Gateway
Claybusters (MO) finished 1st in the Open Division followed by the Henry County (TN) No Fly Zone in 2nd and the Burlington (WI) H.S. Demons finished 3rd.
In Trap, The Burlington (WI) H.S. Demons finished 1st in the Varsity Division with the Gateway (MO) Claybusters in 2nd and the Ozaukee (WI) Youth Trap Team in 3rd. The Junior Varsity Division Championship was won by Team Henges Red (MO), St. Charles (IL) S.C. was 2nd and Pinckneyville (IL) H.S. was 3rd. The Team Henges Orange squad finished 1st in the Intermediate Division followed by the Burlington (WI) H.S. Demons in 2nd and the Arnold Junior Shooters (MO) in 3rd. Open Division Champs were the Arnold Junior Shooters Red (MO) squad with the Gateway Claybusters (MO) finishing 2nd and the Chester (IL) H.S. Yellow Jackets finishing 3rd.
In Sporting Clays, the two Pinckneyville (IL) H.S. squads captured 1st and 2nd Place in the Varsity Division followed by the Burlington (WI) H.S. Demons in 3rd. The Junior Varsity Division Championship was captured by the Pinckneyville (IL) H.S. team with the CAM Scholastic Shooting Team (IA) placing 2nd and Pinckneyville (IL) H.S. team placing 3rd. In the Intermediate Division, the Pinckneyville (IL) H.S. team finished 1st followed by the Central Falcons (WI) H.S. team in 2nd and the Pinckneyville (IL) H.S. team in 3rd and in the Open Division, Clarksville (TN) H.S. captured 1st Place while Marrissa (IL) H.S. finished in 2nd followed by the Wilmot Panthers (WI) H.S. team in 3rd.
