Danville, VA -(AmmoLand.com)- The 2016 3-Gun Nation Championship and Shooting Sports Expo is coming to VIRginia International Raceway’s premium onsite shooting ranges Oct. 7 to 9, featuring several levels of competition from amateur, semi-pro and professional shooters.
The three days of action includes the Nationals Championship, Pro Series Championship, inaugural 3-Gun Nation Shotgun Nationals, live fire demonstrations, product testing and more.
The headlining 3-Gun Nation Nationals, presented by Freedom Munitions, will feature 250 sharp shooters competing in all equipment divisions and level classifications over two days. In the exciting sport of 3-gun shooting, competitors use three different firearms – a modern sporting rifle, a pistol and a shotgun. Participants compete in matches with various “stages” or scenarios in which they must engage targets using one gun or multiple guns in a specific sequence.
Also taking place is the Pro Series Championship finals, dubbed the “NRA Sports’ 3-Gun Nation,” presented by Lucas Oil. This series features top professionals in the sport participating in a televised circuit of elite competitions, with the VIR championship airing on MAVTV. Participants will take aim in the semifinals Friday night and those who advance to the final eight will square off Saturday in one of the most exciting events in all of practical shooting – the 3-Gun Nation Shoot-Off. The 3-Gun Nation Shoot-Off is a man-versus-man tournament that will crown the overall Pro Series champion and winner of the coveted $50,000 cash prize sponsored by NRA Sports.
“We’re honored to have 3-Gun Nation back for its second year of competition at our world class shooting facilities, this time with even more exhilarating events for spectators to enjoy,” said Connie Nyholm, owner and CEO of VIR. “The weekend will be action packed including the highly anticipated shooting matches, a vendor row, radical off-road vehicle showcases and more. Shooting sports enthusiasts and motorsport fans alike won’t want to miss these exciting three days at VIR.”
Additionally, 3-Gun Nation will debut its inaugural 3-Gun Nation Shotgun Nationals, presented by Nordic Components, at VIR. This new initiative opens up the shooting sports competition to the public, with no invitation or 3-Gun Nation membership required to compete. The six-stage shotgun “side match” will be held over the course of the weekend. Entry is $75 dollars and the event features $5,000 in cash prizes sponsored by Nordic Components. Everyday shooters of any skill level can enjoy hands-on training and even challenge family, friends or business associates to official skeet competitions on National Skeet Shooting Association-approved courses throughout the year.
