North Haven, CT-(Ammoland.com)- During the recent 147th NRA Annual Meetings & Exhibits in Dallas, Texas, Mossberg was the recipient of a National Rifle Association (NRA) Publications Golden Bullseye Award for their 590 Shockwave 12-gauge pump-action and two premier Ballistic’s Best awards for the company’s MVP LC (Light Chassis) bolt-action rifle and 590M™ Mag-Fed pump-action shotgun. The 590 Shockwave was awarded the title of 2017 Shotgun of the Year by Shooting Illustrated magazine, and Mossberg also received an Editors’ Choice Award for Value Bolt Action and a Readers’ Choice Award for Tactical Shotgun for the MVP LC and 590M respectively by Athlon Publications.

Now in their 16th year, the NRA Publications Golden Bullseye Awards acknowledge the finest products available in the shooting sports. Winners are selected by a seven-member committee consisting of editors, graphic designers and veteran NRA Publications staff, representing more than a century of collective experience in the shooting and hunting industry. For consideration of a Golden Bullseye Award, the product must be recently-introduced and available to consumers; evaluated by a NRA staff member or regular contributor to the magazine; exceeded the evaluator’s expectations; be innovative in design and function; and styled in a manner befitting the shooting and hunting industry.

John MacLellan, Vice President of Sales and Marketing, accepted the award on behalf of Mossberg during a special breakfast hosted by NRA Publications on the opening morning of the Annual Meetings. “This is a tremendous honor; and on behalf of everyone at Mossberg, I would like to express our appreciation to the NRA Publications staff and specifically, Shooting Illustrated, for this prestigious award,” commented MacLellan.

Ballistic’s Best recognizes the gold standard in firearms manufacturing. Athlon Publications’ editorial staff evaluated firearms representing superiority in their class from personal defense handguns to AR-platforms to precision bolt-action rifles and in other major categories. Each firearm was tested head-to-head against the other finalists and only the finest received recognition as Ballistic’s Best in the Premiere 2018 issue. In addition to the Editors’ Choice awards, thousands of Ballistic’s online audience voted to select the Readers’ Choice Awards in every category.

Trophies were presented to the Editors’ Choice and Readers’ Choice winners during a reception and dinner hosted by Athlon Publications on Friday evening, May 4th. Finalists in each category were also recognized with gold medallions. In addition to the Editors’ Choice and Readers’ Choice Awards, Mossberg was acknowledged as Editors’ Choice Finalists in the following categories: Semi-Auto Rifles – MMR™ Pro; Tactical Shotguns – 590M Mag-Fed; Sporting Shotguns – 930™ Hunting/Field Autoloader; and Lever-Action Rifles – 464™ SPX.

“The winners from Ballistics’ Best 2018 are consumers,” stated John MacLellan, Vice President of Sales and Marketing. “As the in-depth and unbiased evaluations by Athlon Publications’ review teams provided readers with honest feedback on the latest firearms in nine categories. Mossberg is honored to be recognized by the editors and readers for two Ballistics’ Best awards and we are proud to finish with Mossberg firearms as finalists in four other categories.”

How did the Mossberg Shockwave win an award for best shotgun (12 gauge)? Yes, it’s a 12 gauge but it’s not a shotgun. If the company starts accepting awards & referring to it as a shotgun in articles are they not taking a chance that the gov’t might try & reclassify it as such instead of leaving it where it belongs, as a weapon?

I love Mossberg shotguns, and have owned a couple of nice pumps over the years, but I also would not classify the shockwave as a usable shotgun let alone get an award for it. If you wrapped some electrical tape around that stubby handle you would have a gang bangers delight. I’m sorry but for home defense I prefer my Beretta 1301 tactical, it is a short shotgun, but very legal, and fires five rounds of anything 12ga. thirty five percent faster than anything on the market.
