Calls Grow for Armed Teachers, Staff After Texas School Shooting

Madison, Wis. — -(Ammoland.com)- Wisconsin Gun Owners, Inc. (WGO) — Wisconsin’s only no-compromise gun rights organization — opposes calls by Sen. Chris Murphy for more gun control in the wake of the Robb Elementary school shooting.

The shooting took place in Uvalde, Texas. According to Wisconsin Gun Owners:

30 percent of Texas schools have armed teachers and staff; However, Robb Elementary, where 19 students and two adults were killed, does not appear to be one.

Robb Elementary is among most Texas schools subject to the Federal Gun-Free Zone Act, which prohibits concealed carry on the premises, according to the school’s own rules and codes of conduct.

“Thirty percent of Texas’s schools enjoy armed protection by teachers and staff, and this killer did not choose those schools as his target,” said WGO Executive Director Thomas Leager. “He chose Robb Elementary for a reason — and that is because it was unprotected.”

According to Leager, it was “another example of the dangers of sending our children to schools that are labeled Gun-Free Zones, which are really just Criminal Safe Zones. This tragic event is not a condemnation of the Second Amendment but an example of the dangerous failure of gun control.”

Leager added that Wisconsin Gun Owners, Inc. would continue to support the right of teachers and school staff to be armed on school property as both a deterrent and defense against madmen that would commit these heinous acts against the most vulnerable among us. The state gun rights organization calls on teachers to approach the issue of self-defense from an educational viewpoint rather than a politicized knee-jerk reaction.

With firearm education on par with police officers’ training — in Wisconsin, that is less than 40 hours of classroom and range training — there is no reason teachers should not be equipped and prepared to defend their students.

It’s just terrible, I can’t feel safe even in my educational building

HLB

Looks like Uvalde is forgotten now. On to the next preventable tragedy.

Here is what may be a complete timeline of the incident:

https://www.texastribune.org/2022/05/27/uvalde-texas-school-shooting-timeline/

If this is true then, while there are many brave people in the world, very few of them were at Uvalde that day.

HLB

Wild Bill

Yes, all that is left, now, is the fight against the gun grabbers that are misusing this incident.

Ope

I don’t believe I have heard one gun-grabber yet blame the shooter for this tragedy. According to them it’s always the guns and millions of law-abiding who had nothing to do with this.

Wild Bill

Yep, spot on!

swmft

I must be high on the list, moved my ammo out of space i keep it in to clean and paint the room , the pile of full cans four high takes more room in the garage than a dually extended cab dodge ram

Wild Bill

Don’t tell anyone.

HLB

I would like to see Ammoland sponsor a series of articles on school safety.

We, as commenters, can gather information locally and report. I will do that for my area.

We could then submit proposals – in person – to our local governments, and report those results here.

We could do something.

HLB

Wild Bill

Good idea. And maybe we could think of ways to support Daniel Defense, too, because the press and gun grabbers are coming after DD specifically.

Finnky

They are claiming DD was negligent in selling firearm to the nut job (nj). Given nj was from Texas and DD is in Georgia, they would be facing criminal charges if they’d sold it to him directly. Hard to see how they could be responsible for something they sold to FFL or to distributor who sold it to FFL, before FFL ran NICS check for FBI approval, before selling to nj. Were I on jury for such a civil suit, I would fight to award maximum possible from plaintiff’s lawyer (and plaintiff) to DD. Treat lawfare as the attack which… Read more »

If the statement is true that local police waited over 40 min and would not enter the school to stop the shooter they all should be fired. I do not care about what department rules of engagement read , Those are children that cannot defend themselves against overwhelming force. The correct response is to take the fight to the shooter. There is glory in life without accepting death it is the only answer to life itself. If that was true they should all be fired. Forty minutes was call out time to dead shooter.

Yes, and may God bless that boarder patrolman!

Absolutely.

John…I found the articles . If you can pull up Townhall PM dated 5/25/22 . It has several articles including the one about the Border Patrol responding .
The lead article is “Sick Son of a Bitch” Beto Crashes Uvalde Press Conference

HLB, this elementary school had no resource officer. Few do. They are most often found in middle schools and high schools.

Ope

Until the Parkland Fl. school shooting I had never even heard the term “resource officer” before. I’m not sure Texas even has resource officers.

Finnky

We’ve had them for at least a decade here in the city of Plano. Don’t believe there was one in my kid’s elementary school (K-5) or middle school (6-8) but definitely in high and sr high (9-12). Have heard something about an SRO in some articles on this shooting. Not sure if I believe them because elementary schools tend to be small and to not have an SRO. Most shooters have been high school students or recent graduates attacking their own high school. Who would ever target elementary students? Obviously he selected elementary for this very reason :(. Apparently madness… Read more »

Were you in Texas law enforcement some time ago?

If so, maybe they started using them after you left.

HLB

I read several accounts with conflicting information. Which ones are correct? I don’t know. One account said it was not known if the Resource Officer engaged in gun play. Another said something about the entry and a Resource Officer. One said the evil person left his ammo bag at an entrance. That could be because he met some resistance there. There was mention of the city using 40% of its tax base for security and also a $500,000 grant for (school?) security. I am afraid the next gun-free zone shooting will wipe out the full information on this event.

HLB

As is always the way these matters are handled, the REAL info on this, if it ever comes out, will happen around two weeks after the fact.

UVALDE—Frustrated onlookers urged police to charge into a school where a gunman killed 19 kids & 2 teachers. The massacre lasted ~40min, ending with the shooter killed by Border Patrol.

“Go in there! Go in there!” nearby women shouted at the officers soon after the attack began, said Juan Carranza. He said they did not go in.

Cazares, whose daughter was killed, got there while police were still gathered outside. Upset, he urged other bystanders, “Let’s just rush in because the cops aren’t doing anything.

“They were unprepared.”

Russn8r

Update: Texas state cop says it was an hour before the Border Patrol got there and took him out.

Finnky

Did parents tell the cops to get out of the way and let the parents go in? I certainly would if I was on scene of an elementary school shooting – and I wouldn’t even have a child there. Cannot imagine any armed parent not attempting to enter if cops would not. If cops did wait outside the school – then I am appalled. SCOTUS has ruled that LEO has no duty to protect any individual, but should be focused on safety of society as a whole. Perhaps it is time for stat law requiring action when children are threated… Read more »

Russn8r

I heard on the radio the cops tacked a couple parents who tried to go in.

Oldvet

Finnky…Does Texas have gun free zones ?
Seems time test has proved they are counter productive to their stated purpose .

Stag

Yes, we do. Lots of them actually.

Finnky

What Stag said.

Yes we do – and yes they are.

Time for common sense gun control reform – let’s start by eliminating gun free zones. Surely that is one thing we can all agree on.

HLB

I want to know what the Resource Officer did.

HLB

3l120

Agreed, where was he? Was he actively trying to stop the shooter but pinned down, or was he hiding in the janitor’s closet. I still can’t figure out why folks here get voted down for asking an important question. Too many get their nose out of joint and never forget it, I guess.

HLB

It has taken me a while to settle in here and qualify for down votes. The down-voters must be trying to say something. Perhaps they could just speak or ask with words? I would listen or answer. I have talked to and observed a wide range of personalities.

HLB

Russn8r

Downvoters on paTROLL are Wild Bill’s Oathbreaker Sock-Puppet Posse. They will not tolerate any criticism or even question of bad cops. That dishonors & diminishes the courage of good cops and can get them killed in at least 2 ways:

1) Risking their lives to save innocents while bad cops cower like The Broward Cowards.

2) Killed by Oathbreakers for disobeying tyrannical orders (gun confiscation, rounding up conservatives etc).

The real cop-haters are those who call others cop-haters for refusing to make excuses for bad cops.

JayWPB

I wish some school would take me up on my long-standing offer to provide free armed security. I’m retired and have the time, but the existing political situation makes it impossible for them even if they’d want me.

3l120

You must live in the wrong state.

Finnky

My understanding is that in Texas, anyone can carry in school if they have written approval from school’s administration! I think it’s recent gun control reform 🙂 … It’s a different question whether you could convince administration that you would be beneficial – and would manage to not offend parents (including Karens).

Russn8r

I’d like to see the text of that law, cites, etc, but I understand such approval is only available in ~30% (?) of Texas schools and not in this one (obviously). “Gun Free” Zones should’ve been state preempted, but cuck Abbott & his RINO lover boy Dade Phelan love “gun free” zones and preserved them in “Constitutional Carry”.

Ope

School administrators would not have the legal authority to do that Finnky.

junior52

40 BILLION DOLLARS sent to Ukraine. Why not spend it on our school security?

The Crimson Pirate

Simply remove the prohibitions on people carrying in schools if they can legally carry in their state. You will instantly have an unknown number of anonymous people providing deterrence and security in every school and it will cost nothing.

KenW

Well at least lock the doors so they cannot be opened from the outside except during recess.

Finnky

Do both. Teachers and staff are wrapped up in their work, locked doors buys time for announcement through PA and for good-guys (and gals) to transform from nurturing educator to fierce protector. By themselves doors only buy a little time – but in conjunction with abundant responsible armed defenders they are very helpful.

john

83 billion left on the ground in Afghanistan while Joe Biden left Americans to fend off the Taliban on their own.

Democrats / Rhinos do not care about human life unless they can control the money and the narrative. Schools should be America’s first interest the future of our country is its children. Not the 545 ageing politicians in Washington DC.

Russn8r

And THAT more than anything else encouraged Putin to invade Ukraine.

Wild Bill

I can not disagree with that.

Russn8r

Because we don’t need nor should we want government to spend $40B on school “security”. We need government to get out of the way, repeal “gun free” school zones, and let teachers and staff be their own security.

You actually think that “false flag” operations are NOT a thing? WOW! Where have you been for all of human history? False flag ops have been every governments’ SOP since at least the days of the square rigged sailing ships of the dark ages. Where do you think the phrase “false flag” came from in the first place? Wild Bill

I think that he meant the freemasons part, brother. Everyone knows about false flag ops. The KGB was famous for false flag ops.

Ope

Of course I meant the Freemasons part. Knute should had known that too.

Wild Bill

Knute is a good man. I can never confuse him with a gun smithing or reloading question.

Ope

I sure agree with that. I could had been more specific in my comment too.

Russn8r

Yep. And when fighting enemy ships or taking prizes, it was de rigueur to fly false flags to confuse the enemy before battle, flying the true flag just before firing.

I’m skeptical of false flag if there’s a more conventional Ockham’s Razor explanation. It’s not like permissive parenting, psychoactive pharma drugging & govt-union-commie school groomers don’t create tons of these little monsters.

Consider Las Vegas: I suspect an ATF-FBI-“counterterrorist”-CI entrapment “sting” bungled & covered up.

But I don’t rule out treasonous Deep State “LEOs” having intentionally bungled Vegas & let it happen. Same for 9/11.

Oldvet

PS…You don’t suppose beto knows something he’s not telling ? Like recruitment of possible shooters ? What better place to start looking than the roles of mentally disturbed and or domestic violence reports .

Oldvet

PS…I’m noticing we seem to have these shootings when the left and gun controllers need one .

Wild Bill

Yeah, that is strange, isn’t it.

john

Correct decision lock the doors in the schools monitor social media report any persons at the schools who does belong there.

musicman44mag

I question if it was really a school shooting or a victim of circumstance shooting.
He was being chased and crashed his car. Do they think that he crashed it into the school on purpose? I am wondering if it just happened to turn out like it did because that is where he crashed. I think that if he would have crashed into a grocery store or wherever, he would have done the same thing, in this case, it just happened to be a school, an unarmed school.

Just wondering.

Russn8r

Right. Like the Broward Cowards. If they did their job it wouldn’t have been Border Patrol taking him out.

You always make excuses for bad cops, thereby disgracing and minimizing the courage and honor of good cops. It’s a form of cop-hate.

Last edited 30 days ago by Russn8r
Finnky

I agree – however accounts vary with cops staging outside for half an hour to over an hour. I’d be fine with taking 30 seconds to coordinate, or maybe even a minute – but 30 minutes is inexcusable.

How long does it take for an injured child to bleed out?

Ope

Forty minutes from call out to dead shooter ain’t bad. Not an hour. Plus it would had really helped if the son of a bitch wouldn’t had been able to just walk through an un-locked door.

Russn8r

40 minutes ain’t bad? Really? While defenseless children are being executed by a young punk? While they kept parents from going in? PATHETIC.

My understanding is the cops were there within 4 minutes, took some fire, then cowered for an hour and “organized” before the Border Patrol took him out.

Nope.

BZZZZ. It wouldn’t take “20 gallows in every town running 24/7” just to kill the politicians.

But I get it. You only want to assassinate politicians. The Oathbreakers who ENFORCE their laws and actually MURDER innocent civilians get a pass because they were Just Following Orders.

I stand corrected. You’re not a cop hater. You just hate civilians.

But wait. The Oathbreakers will kill the cops who honor their oath and disobey. So I guess you ARE a cop hater after all.

Wild Bill

Why would anyone hate good cops? You are not even logical anymore. Get a grip.

Russn8r

Why would YOU facilitate the murder of good cops by bad cops who Just Follow the Orders of Tyrants? That’s exactly what you do by letting Oathbreakers off the hook.

You’re a cop-hater.

Russn8r

He clearly wasn’t talking about all retired LEOs, so why take offense?

John…I believe it was on one of our local news reports , A Border Patrol Agent was near by . Went in with out backup shot the kid and was himself wounded in the leg . It may have come from a media report like the one beto crashed . That should be easy to check out down there especially if he was himself wounded . Which lends credence to the fact that the shooting was confined to one room of the school .

I have great respect if this is true for that border patrol agent and all who took the oath to serve & protect I also want to learn more about the chase who was involved and how he got away.
