Oklahoma City, OK – A mother of four defended her home in northwest Oklahoma City on Tuesday night, shooting an intruder who violently broke down her front door. The suspect, 37-year-old John Adame, had been released from prison just a week earlier.

According to police, Adame was first spotted sleeping outside a neighbor’s apartment. Breeann Wetselline, who lives next door, initially ignored him, assuming he was just another homeless person seeking shelter from the cold. But the situation quickly escalated.

“Next thing you know, we heard someone trying to open our door,” Wetselline told reporters. She and her husband called police as Adame turned his attention to their neighbor’s apartment.

The victim, a mother of four, was home with her children when Adame began shouting racial slurs and threats. Witnesses say she warned him that she was armed, but he didn’t listen. When he kicked in the door, she fired, hitting him in the neck.

Despite his injury, Adame managed to flee but was quickly found by responding officers in a nearby building. He was taken into custody and rushed into surgery. Once released from the hospital, police say he’ll be booked into the Oklahoma County Detention Center.

Court records show Adame was recently incarcerated for grand larceny in Carter County, serving less than a year before being let back on the streets.

Neighbors say the mother had every right to defend her home and children.

“Don’t be trying to break into people’s doors,” Wetselline said plainly.

Authorities have not announced any charges against the mother, [of course they shouldn’t] as Oklahoma law strongly protects the right to self-defense.

This case is another in a long, long list of reminders of why law-abiding citizens exercise their Second Amendment rights—to protect their families when danger comes knocking.

Damn. Who taught this woman how to defend herself. She should know that it is a minimum of three well placed shots. If she would have done that, we might have had a happy ending.

🙁

A neck shot should have made for a “Problem solved. Problem stays solved.” moment. What went wrong? Glad the lady and her family are safe.
