The Truth About Guns Saving Lives – A Closer Look ~ VIDEO

Opinion

I just watched an eye-opening video by John Stossel featuring John Lott from the Crime Prevention Research Center, and it’s time we talk about something the mainstream media and Hollywood don’t want you to hear.

The Myth That Succesful Self-Defense is Rare

You’ve probably heard the narrative: “Guns in self-defense are rare.” This line gets parroted by the FBI, media, and every anti-gun politician out there. But here’s the deal – it’s not the whole story. John Lott, a criminal justice researcher, points out that the FBI’s data misses a ton of cases where civilian gun use prevents crimes or saves lives.

Let’s break it down with some real-life examples:

  • In South Carolina, a nightclub shooting was stopped by a concealed carrier, but you barely heard about it because 49 deaths in Orlando grabbed all the headlines.
  • In Titusville, Florida, a man with a concealed carry permit stopped a potential mass shooting at an elementary school event. Local news covered it, but it didn’t make national news.
  • Raul Mendez, at a party, used his legally carried gun to stop a shooter, saving perhaps dozens of lives, including his own family’s.

These stories are out there, but they’re often buried or ignored because they don’t fit the anti-gun narrative.

Hollywood and liberal politicians have a narrative they want to push – one where guns are only bad. They partner with screenwriters to paint gun owners as reckless or foolish. But here’s the truth: in many instances, just showing a gun has been enough to deter crime.

The Data Gap

The FBI admits their data isn’t intended to capture every incident but rather gives a “baseline understanding.” This means a lot of defensive gun uses go unreported or underreported. Lott’s research at CrimeResearch.org aims to fill this gap by documenting these incidents.

FBI’s Political Bias

Lott suggests there’s a political bias at play. Some FBI agents have even admitted that their political leanings might affect data interpretation. This isn’t about whether the FBI as an institution is anti-gun but more about how data can be skewed to fit a narrative.

For us, this means we need to push back against misinformation. We know from experience and now from research that good guys with guns can and do stop bad guys with guns. It’s not just an “adolescent rescue fantasy” – it’s a reality for many.

Actionable Insight

  • Stay Informed: Don’t rely solely on mainstream media & big Hollywood. For a fuller picture, check out sites like CrimeResearch.org.
  • Share the Truth About Defensive Gun Use: Stories like these need to be shared to counter the narrative pushed by those who want to disarm us.
  • Be Armed & Prepared: Like Raul Mendez, many of us carry not just for personal safety but for the protection of others around us.

Remember, our right to bear arms is not about hunting or sports; it’s about safety, freedom, and, sometimes, saving lives. Keep your head up, stay educated, and let’s keep the conversation going.

Stay armed, stay dangerous, and keep spreading the truth.

There’s no proof that “good guys” with guns stop mass shootings! OF COURSE NOT, because they stop them BEFORE it becomes a mass shooting! DUH!

The rifle itself has no moral stature, since it has no will of its own. Naturally, it may be used by evil men for evil purposes, but there are more good men than evil. And while the latter cannot be persuaded to the path of righteousness by propaganda, they can certainly be corrected by good men with rifles.

I assume most regular readers of Ammoland are subscribers of Professor John Lott’s Crime Prevention Research Center at crimeResearch.org or should be. Once a week or two Dr. Lott sends out a short one page email with hyperlinks to things he’s been working on and other relevant information. I find it very useful and not loaded with pop up ads or other annoying click bait tricks.

Ledesma

This is an incredible article. Something big city newspapers would never report. However, in those cities such incidents are most always dealt with as crimes.

Way back when, probably the most die hard hunter in Hollywood was Robert Taylor. Barbara Stanwyck divorced him because he’d get in his plane and fly off to Montana and Idaho and northern California anytime a season was open. He’d meet Clark Gable and Ernest Hemingway for week long trips. And if hunting wasn’t open, he fly off to go fish instead. The Duke was a die hard bird hunter. There’s photo’s of him with his friends and co-stars out duck hunting. And he’d hunt grouse and pheasant. There’s a photo of Roy Weatherby gifting him a Mark V, I’m… Read more »
