West Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Police say a man is dead after being shot by the owner of the store he was trying to rob in West Philadelphia on Thursday night.
What appears to the intended victim as a simple vehicle theft turns out to be a hardened criminal who no doubt would have killed everyone in the home or nearby just to escape.
Pretty clearly a good self-defense shooting. There could have been additional robbers in the area so running away was not necessarily a bad decision.
The young mother asked the 911 dispatcher “I’ve got two guns in my hand, is it okay to shoot him if he comes in this door?”
The girlfriend told investigators that her boyfriend had assaulted her and ultimately fired a gun at her. She stated that she shot him immediately after he fired a handgun at her.

Chasing the suspect out of the home in this incident was really risky. Pursuing criminals is always best left to law enforcement. They have the training, the tools, backup in route and free lawyers.
“It was scary. He wanted to shoot me. It was so scary,” noting that it was the first time he had ever fired a gun. When the suspect ran, the clerk called the police.
The suspect ran out of the business and got into the car. A worker with a gun followed him out of the store and took a shot at the car as it left.
As soon as possible, the victim calls 911 and did not chase after his antagonist. Two strong indicators to police that he was not the aggressor.
Ten minutes later, a 35-year-old man with a gunshot wound in his abdomen was dropped off at Swedish Hospital in Ballard and was later transferred to Harborview Medical Center.
