“There is freedom waiting for you,
On the breezes of the sky,
And you ask, ‘What if I fall?’
But, oh my darling,
What if you fly?”
Erin Hanson
Property (real estate) ownership is key to all our freedoms!
Those who own land outright can expel anyone from their property, including the government and its agents.
Thus, “property owners” just might get the crazy idea that they have the inalienable right to enjoy their land, the fruits of their own labor, and their own personal liberty and freedom. In fact, they might get the even crazier idea that these rights are unconditionally conferred upon them by their Creator, not grudgingly, arbitrarily dribbled out to them by the self-appointed “elite.”
The foregoing notion frightens the snot out of leftists/liberals/Democrats/Communists and other totalitarians; always has.
Accordingly, in Africa and other colonies, British royalty made sure that all land was perpetually owned by them, and only “leased” to those who occupied and worked it, so nobody would ever get any “ideas”.
The identical process is exercised in America in the form of ever-increasing “property taxes.”
Totalitarians thus unmistakably communicate to citizens that we exist only at their pleasure, and only to serve them.
They relentlessly do so throughout most of the world and throughout most of world history. Only in the West have we (over the last few hundred years) enshrined the “crazy idea” of individual freedom, sovereignty, economic freedom (capitalism), and property ownership.
By contrast, totalitarians thrive on lawlessness, chaos, squalor, hopelessness, and an absolute prohibition on social/economic mobility, while they quietly acquire wealth and live in isolated, disinterested splendor, as they oh so piously “look down” upon the rest of us.
That is their mantra!
Totalitarians will therefore, without fail, tirelessly work to wipe out personal freedom, economic freedom, and private land ownership.
We see it going on today in South Africa (where landowners are simply murdered) and even in America, where perpetual lawlessness and chaos epitomize America’s cities.
It’s no accident!
Totalitarians (Democrats) want it that way, and they will never change.
“Who claim that they’re evil are usually no worse than the rest of us It’s people who claim that they’re good, or in any way better than the rest of us, that you have to be wary of.” ~ Gregory Maguire.

Property taxes and eminent domain ensure that you will never be a property owner. You will forever rent your property from government, your beneficiaries will rent it from government when you leave it to them, and government will take it from you if they so choose.
“Totalitarians (Democrats)”… based on who was in charge at the time, don’t forget the other ones.

Trust me, I am with the government and I am here to help
Gubmint is truly out of control, whether its federal, state, county or municipal gubmint; the de facto gubmint of the insurance and health care industries; or the pissant, chickenshit tyrants of the hundreds of thousands of HOA’s and water districts and other Big Utilities, we have ceded far too much of our personal autonomy to governing authorities and taxing entities. It’s gotta stop.
You may have fulfilled all the terms of your mortgage. You may have the actual deed to your real property. But miss a few property tax payments and see who really owns your property.
Mr. Farnham missed one factor in the war against liberty; and that’s debasing the money supply through inflation on the one hand, and taxation on the other. It is by this mechanism that financial freedom is taken away from We The People by the government and ends up in the hands of the elites in the form of subsidies, etc.
