Louisiana Bill Would Make You Show Your Guns Before Being Allowed to Buy Ammo
Severely Restricts Hunting Ammunition Sales.
Louisiana –-(Ammoland.com)- A bill in Louisiana would require sportsmen to show the serial number on their firearms before purchasing ammunition.
House Bill 8, introduced by Representative Juan LaFonta (D- New Orleans), requires any person selling ammunition to verify that the serial number of the gun for which the ammunition will be used has not been altered or destroyed. Only antique and war relic firearms would be exempt from this new requirement if they are rendered inoperable or if ammunition for these firearms is not available in the U.S. and not otherwise readily available through other means.
Essentially, this bill would require sportsmen to take their guns with them to their local gun shop anytime they needed to purchase ammunition. While there, the sales clerk would be required to check the gun’s serial number to make sure it wasn’t altered in any way before selling any ammunition. Sportsmen would have to go through this process every time they want to purchase ammunition. Those wanting to buy ammunition for more than one gun at a time would have to carry every with them to the store to be examined by the sales clerk.
“This bill is another example of legislation aimed at eliminating gun ownership by creating unnecessary, burdensome restrictions on a person’s ability to use a firearm,” said Jeremy Rine, U.S. Sportsmen’s Alliance associate director of state services. “HB 8 is nothing more than a solution in search of a problem.”

Tell them the bill is impracticable, unnecessary, and only serves to restrict law abiding gun owners. I completely agree. This won't "fix" anything – people with ill intent will always find a means to their end. But hey, if I have to have the 19 year old at the sports counter at WalMart checking the SN on my gun, Is open carry an option in LA? If so, I say sidearms for everyone!

The bill's author is a certifiable imbecile. No gun control law can be shown to work, but this is beyond stupid. We take people to the range regularly and ask them to "only" buy their own ammo (sometimes) — partly so they will have the experience of going to a gun store and understanding the process, partly to defray the costs. What provision is in this bill for .22 caliber ammo? Many folks have multiple .22 caliber pistols, revolvers, and rifles. What the heck would this prove? I think this guy has been smoking more than pot.

They should make them recite the Bill of Rights at the swearing in, if they can't remember it,they are too stupid to hold office and should be dismissed. They take an oath to protect and defend the constitution,that means all of it, not just the parts they agree with.
I have a legally owned Thompson. It would be spectacular to walk into Wal Mart and trot back to the sporting goods department. I bet it would quickly reduce that number of locations selling ammo and the people owning firearms. That La Fanta dude needs to be extracted from public office since he obviously does not support the Constitution.
