With the current workload/volume continuing to pour into the NICS, the FBI NICS Section will not be accepting general customer service calls at least until after Wednesday, March 6, 2013.
These types of calls include but are not limited to; NICS transaction status checks, Appeal or Voluntary Appeal File related questions, and general NICS related questions. This modification has been put into place to process your incoming NICS background checks as efficiently as possible.
If you are an FFL who likes to check on your delay statuses, I highly recommend you enroll with the NICS E-Check (processing your NICS Background Checks via the internet-also allows you to check your delayed statuses on both your internet and phone transactions 24/7). The NICS E-Check has been running, with little to no delay.
