Always Trying To Find A Way To Strangle Your Second Amendment Rights

Illinois –  -(Ammoland.com)-  The anti-gun movement is always trying to find a way to strangle your Second Amendment rights.

A few of the ways they try to do this is to cut off supply, drive prices up, make gun ownership inconvenient, if not impossible, and attempt to make gun owners feel isolated and even threatened.

Illinois HB1016 had some of all of these elements in the bill. The primary goals were to cut off supply and drive prices up beyond the average person’s reach. The way they were going to cut off supply was plain and simple: put so much meaningless regulation, red tape and requirements on local firearm dealers that it would force local dealers out of business. The ones that were left would have to charge so much that few people could buy their products.

Many people do not understand that dealers are already tightly controlled by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF).

Dealer misconduct is dealt with harshly. No dealer I know violates the law. Firearm dealers are very conscientious, responsible and upright citizens. The fact is that HB1016 seeks to attack a fairly small group of individuals and small companies that the anti-gun scammers view as an easy target. The good news is that gun owners saw HB1016 for what it was and stood up to the anti-gun fanatics.

The bad news is that the Illinois Legislature adjourned to the call of the Chair (Speaker of the House). They will be back all summer as scheduled on the calendar, which right now is every Wednesday. Moreover, since this is not a Special Session, anything without an immediate effective date only needs a simple majority to pass. The budget requires an immediate effective date; HB1016 does not. It is going to be a long, hot and busy summer. We cannot let our guard down.

The suppressor bill (SB206) made it back to the Senate after it was amended but did not get scheduled for a concurrence vote. It is still hanging out there and I suspect that is where it will stay, barring a miracle. The same is true for SB553, which is in the House, trapped in Rules.

I want to thank all of you who filled out witness slips and called your legislators. We cannot put those legislator lists away – keep them at the ready. We will be in Springfield watching.

Don’t forget to mark your calendars for the 14th Annual NRA Day at the ISRA Range, June 18, 2016. Bring your family and friends!

One of the ‘Leftist Liberal Progressive’ favored methods is interfering in commerce via regulation or arbitrary rules. They do this not only to the firearms business but also other industries under the guise of ‘good intentions’.
