Thornton Wins Classic Div. at ICORE Central States Regional Shootout

LOS OSOS, Calif. –-(Ammoland.com)- Steve Thornton of Schererville, Ind. won the Classic division title at the Smith & Wesson Central States Regional Revolver Championship on Sunday, July 17.

Organized by the International Confederation of Revolver Enthusiasts (ICORE), the match was held at the Bend of the River Conservation Club in Buchanan, Mich.

Thornton took top honors on four of the eight stages and led the field from stage three through the last stage to finish with a final time of 329.04, more than 27 points ahead of his nearest competitor.

“As interest in ICORE’s Classic division continues to grow we are seeing great shooting performances each and every week in competitions around the country. Steve’s win at the Central States Regional is just another example of the rising level of competition you’ll find in the division,” said Ron Joslin of ICORE.

Finishing in second, and taking the Classic division Senior title, was Roger Reid of Bentonville, Ark. who won three stages before posting a final time of 356.08 seconds. Taking third with one stage win was Tim Colby of West Lafayette, Ind. with a time of 362.05.

Rounding out the top five were Pete White who finished fourth with 383.01 seconds and Bob Briggs of Memphis, Tenn. in fifth with a time of 409.91.

Among the women competing in the Classic division, T.D. Roe of Lemont, Ill. took top honors and finished sixth overall with 421.95.

The Smith & Wesson Central States Regional Revolver Championship was the third of seven events in the 2011 ICORE Regional Series presented by Smith & Wesson. The next event is the Smith & Wesson East Coast Regional Revolver Championship on Sunday, September 25 in New Tripoli, Pa. at the Ontelaunee Rod & Gun Club range.
