Pimento, Indiana – -(Ammoland.com)- Engel Ballistic Research Inc., (EBR) is offering specialized ammunition for big game hunters and avid target shooters.

EBR’s wide range of subsonic and frangible ammunitions – originally designed for law enforcement and military-specific use – will now be available for purchase within civilian markets.

The company has been producing ammunition at the Texas facility since 1996. An increase in demand for subsonic ammunition required EBR to recently move its day-to-day operations and manufacturing site from Texas to Pimento, Ind. This relocation improves EBR’s manufacturing and testing capabilities to better serve the commercial ammunition market.

“EBR produces multiple calibers of military-grade, subsonic, and frangible munitions, which are used throughout the world for the unique needs of military, law enforcement, and security purposes,” John Knox, CEO of EBR says.

“Over the last year EBR has updated its subsonic line with the addition of expanding and fracturing projectiles that maximize performance in the hunting market. As hunters and shooters ourselves, we are seeing the versatility of our rounds in the field and at the range, and we want to offer this product to everyday enthusiasts. We know that the low recoil and noise reduction, as well as the stopping power of our new expanding rounds, is a superior way to hunt.”

The company recently showcased their rounds to the outdoor media for the first time at the Association of Great Lakes Outdoor Writers Annual Conference in Minneapolis, Minnesota. The shooting day event, sponsored by the National Shooting Sports Foundation, was the first time many life-long hunters experienced subsonic capabilities.

“We had a .300 Win Mag bolt-action rifle shooting our subsonic rounds with a suppressor, and it opened several people’s eyes to the functionality and benefits,” Knox says.

“The media members didn’t need hearing protection, there was little-to-no recoil, and they were able to accurately place a 220-grain projectile, traveling at 1,000 feet-per-second, on a 100-yard target time and time again. I think it excited a lot of people. Being able to offer an accurate, proven round in conjunction with noise and recoil reduction is something we feel hunters and target shooters will appreciate. EBR’s mission-specific ammunition has a place in the big-game hunting community.”

EBR also introduced a massive new 12-gauge slug designed for hunting large game. The 475-grain, copper projectile is unique in that it rapidly expands up to 1.4325 inches within the first inch of soft tissue, and is accurate at distances up to 100 yards.

“Anyone hunting deer with a shotgun will want this round,” Knox says.

Common EBR subsonic ammunition available with expanding and non-expanding projectiles:

  • .300 Blackout
  • .223 (5.56 NATO)
  • .308 Winchester (7.62 NATO)
  • .300 Winchester Magnum
