Covington, VA -(Ammoland.com)- The Isle of Wight Board of Supervisors voted down a proposed public shooting range by a vote of 5 to 0.

A large number of gun owners turned out out to speak AGAINST the range, (including a few VCDL members) mostly voicing concerns about noise. We only had seven or so supporting the range at the meeting, of which three spoke.

My takeaway from the low VCDL-member turnout is most of you were simply not interested in that particular range.

One of VCDL’s missions is to support all ranges and gun stores, but we need members to back us up if we are to be successful in protecting them.

On the plus side, it was good seeing so many gun owners at that meeting, even if it was to oppose the range. I hope they stay engaged and do things like show up at VCDL’s Lobby Day in January.

The hearing was friendly and went smoothly. The VCDL members who opposed the range understood why I was there to support the range even when I was vastly outnumbered. They shook my hand and thanked me for all the things VCDL does for gun owners. I also received an email this morning with similar sentiments from another Isle of Wight VCDL member. Yeah, I lost the fight to their side, but I am proud of them, too, for not making it personal.

Any other proposals on that range cannot be brought up for at least another year.
