Second Amendment as Defense Against Tyranny : Gun Studies

Opinion by Alan J Chwick & Joanne D Eisen

arsenal of cartel member – Jose Antonio Torres Marrufo
“the most important benefit of defensive arms is their deterrent power. As long as a potential dictator must take into account very serious risks involved with taking action against the American people, then the prospect for such actions being taken becomes marginally smaller.”

USA – -(AmmoLand.com)- The time has come to ask some questions because it's obvious that the Democrat Party attempted to steal the election of 2016. What would have happened if they had succeeded?

Their maniacal anger, in defeat, reveals the likelihood of future troubles.

What would happen if, no when, a weak President is elected who cannot deal with fake accusations of heartlessness, and who will be eager to compromise? We can be sure that the Democrats will be waiting, in the shadows, to finally orchestrate their long-awaited opportunity to regulate the Second Amendment out of existence.

We gun owners have spent years preparing for the possibility of criminal violence against our families and violence that would accompany various social disruptions such as hurricanes and earthquakes. But are we ready for a political onslaught? And, are we prepared for the inevitable devastating attacks on our Constitution?

The Democrats and their Left minions appear to be dragging our country into new, unknown territory.

There are questions that each of us must answer. How do we feel about death with honor rather than life with chains and slavery? What is moral and what is not in defense of family, and does morality even matter? How righteous is a preemptive strike to protect one's family?

David Kopel discusses the morality of violence and comments, “If violence – especially deadly violence – is always and everywhere immoral, then the Jews who violently resisted Hitler acted immorally.” Kopel believes that the discussion of the morality of violence is, in reality, a discussion about the appropriateness and the circumstances of the use of violence. He further comments, “the failure to use violence may itself be wrongful.”

While the serious nature of these questions began with the Founders, in 1994 the book, Lethal Laws, by Zelman, Simkin and Rice, heated the discussion. The book is still available used online. Zelman believed that genocide was easily committed by the governments against unarmed people. The early data describing seven genocides revealed that 55.9 million unarmed civilians had been murdered.

Daniel Polsby and Don Kates wrote as essay reviewing the book and commented on the notion of self defense against rogue governments. They note, “It is hardly a secret that lawful governments sometimes do grotesque things, quite often to popular acclaim.”

But, Polsby and Kates warn, “Though it is a long step between being disarmed and being murdered – one does not usually lead to the other – but it is nevertheless an arresting reality that not one of the principle genocides of the twentieth century, and there have been dozens, has been inflicted on a population that was armed…An armed population is simply more difficult to exterminate than one that is defenseless.”

The researcher, Rudolf Rummel, coined the word ‘democide' to include genocide and mass murder by government. He calculated 169,202,000 deaths by governments in the twentieth century. We note, that his books make fascinating reading.

Paul Rosenberg suggested that statists, which prefer large bloated governments, believe that any government is “morally superior” to its citizens. In their view, individuals cannot control themselves with deadly weapons, but, says Rosenberg, the opposite is true.

But one question is asked, as a warning. How can anyone armed with a fully automatic weapon prevail against a government force with tanks, planes, and modern technical weaponry? Aren't we making empty threats? Can we even think of resistance?

Survival Gun Safe
The Left needs to know about the decentralized power of armed citizens. They need to fear us.

However, David Kopel, in his review of the Zelman book thinks that armed resistance can be quite successful. There could be no pitched battle of man with rifle against tank and helicopter, but the Tyrant would face a huge economic price. Kopel explains that the kind of well prepared civilian resistance that would exist in the US would be quite successful.

Kopel further writes, “the most important benefit of defensive arms is their deterrent power. As long as a potential dictator must take into account very serious risks involved with taking action against the American people, then the prospect for such actions being taken becomes marginally smaller.”

Yes! He is correct, as our possible enemy does not know our strength! They can only guess. We do not demonstrate. We do not make trouble. Meanwhile, the Democrats’ behavior shows that they are not aware of any risk.

Kopel is concerned, though, about the timing of violent resistance. He suggests,”One guide for when a subject people should resist may be the people's assessment of the government's degree of hatred.”

But we find the country, under President Trump, to be neither a budding tyrant nor a hater. It is the Democrat Party, especially with their socialist wing, who are exhibiting abnormal amounts of hatred against the President, and his supporters. So we might be looking at an impending civil war.

At some point, in the foreseeable future, these people might be voted into office and attempt another coup d'etat. They might be legally able to realize their desire to create a list of guns and gun owners via an expanded background check system which is mandated to save the records of the NICS system. They have definitely become bolder and are out of the closet that hides their intent to destroy the Second Amendment and our right to own legal weapons. “Repeal the Second Amendment,” the New York Times blasted out.

Even if such a time exists, they will never be able to disarm us. We will always wish to avoid violence in our streets and homes.

We suggest that these and other papers we presented here which discuss our Founding Father's view of civilian weapons wielding should be read and discussed more publicly. Revolt of the Masses by Charles Dunlap is an interesting read.

We laud the Three Percenters because they already know. We are so armed and so ready, yet those idiots act like they are not aware that they are racing toward danger and that they will never get the stuff they want by using violence. We tolerate a lot from them because we have a lot to lose if violence begins.

It may never be about genocide, but it will be about freedom.

Simply put, The Left needs to know about the decentralized power of armed citizens. They need to fear us.

Today I salute a great American and honorable man, John McCain, a true war hero… Oh wait, didn’t President Trump say he’s not a war hero? And offered not one word of praise for his character and achievements in service to his country, but rather merely a sterile, one line of condolence to the family? While every other former president and so many politicians on both sides of the aisle have offered profound and eloquent eulogies… Never mind that salute. Too bad, John. My allegiance is with a REAL man of character!

Reportedly he crashed three aircraft in his service to the nation, one of the carrier landings almost sunk his carrier,of course it was overlooked because his grand pappy and daddy were former admirals in their service to the nation.

Single engine fighter planes crash all the time. In combat they get shot down. On the carrier a rocket got loose on another airplane and exploded near McCain’s.
But McCain’s service was fine until he became a Senator. I think he left his judgement in Hanoi, particularly when it came to judging anything called “torture” which would be like calling the Dallas Cowboys Cheer Leaders a porno squad.
I hope that a replacement Senator places conservative Republicanism about compromising for all of the wishes socialist Democrats.

While I didn’t think much of him let’s not give him credit for something that he did not do. The rocket/missile came from a plane opposite of his and struck either his plane and or the plane next to him. There were 134 sailors that perished in the conflagration. According to reports McCain conducted himself valiantly during this disaster.

simply being a pow does not equate to be being a true “war hero”, although many pow’s have been, and all deserve credit for what they endured. mccain has rendered plenty of well-documented political service to the ebola-bama party. “profound & eloquent” usually refers to lawyer gas-passing & bloviating – like obamination presiding over a service for true japanese-american war-hero senator daniel i. a few years back.

John McCain was no war hero. Being a POW dosent make you a war hero. Having a poor military service record does not make you a war hero. Of his father had not been an Admiral he’d have been kicked out of the navy war or no war.
I served 22 years in the Marine Corps. I earnd 2 purple heart’s and a bronze star. Does that make me a war hero?

Zelmen Simkim got it wrong, Stalin alone accounted for some 50 million dead, with the genocide of the Kulacks the purges, and the starvation of his own people from collectivization of all food production and distribution . These 50 millions are not included in the deaths that are attributed to combat troop deaths during the war. He also murdered all of the white Russians that supported the monarchy right after they were ordered to turn in their arms.

I am fascinated at the huge response one shooter draws from law enforcement…probably 20 if not 100 to one. Imagine a municipality dealing with 5 or 6 groups of resisting individuals spread out over miles, multiplied by a hundred if not a thousand municipalities. The government still has the upper hand, but how much would a front line officer be willing to take against his own people?

Don’t forget hurricane Katrina in 2006 or so, in Louisiana, the police were going around taking the guns of citizens who had not broken any laws. The police did not object to this unlawful order, and they carried out in the name public safety. I would not be so trusting of the police and soldiers to do the right thing when it hits the fan. In the beginning anyone resisting the government will considered a criminal with lawful arrest warrants . Does any one think that a “criminal”can convince the police officer to join him?

Ansel Hazen

Yes indeed we can and it will be stunningly simple. As Mitchel Kotula describes above, when the match gets struck small groups of freedom fighters surrounding LE will quickly convince them that things are about to change. This will grow from the suburbs and spread to the larger cities. There is not a one that exists that could resist a siege from the surrounding population.

Be advised Donald that there are some sixty countries out there with laws that forbid private ownership of firearms, and yet they have higher murder rates, per hundred thousand, than the United States. Laws are no substitute for an armed populace. Laws are already in place that prevent convicted criminals and mental incompetents from obtaining firearms. And we know that said laws don’t work.
Honest people are constrained by feelings of guilt and shame. Sociopaths don’t have those sensibilities.

There’s no need to regulate the second out of existence.” There is, however, a need to return to the original intention of the 2nd amendment and go from there. Contrary to Ammoland’s imaginary scenario of arming people to fight tyranny, the framers who wrote and debated the 2nd amendment left notes indicating that it was all about having ready call-up militias to secure a free state. And that’s how they wrote it. Article 1, Section 8, Clause 15 & 16 backs this up by giving the federal congress full control over the states militias (except for the appointment of officers)… Read more »

Your revisionist “history” has been refuted by many noted Constitutional historians, one whom I know personally. The theory of militias being under total control of the Federal Government has been shot down (pun intended) in Cruikshank, Presser, Miller (in part) (although Miller was bad law) and Heller. @Jon B, You mistake the nature of Rights as contrasted to Powers and Authorities. Rights, enumerated in the section of the Constitution known as the Bill of Rights, belong to individual persons. The powers and authority, that you refer to in clauses 15 and 16 of Section 8 in Article 1, belongs to Congress. Nothing in the Second Amendment belongs to Congress. Nothing in Article 1, Section 8, clauses 15 and 16 belong to individuals. Everything in the Second Amendment and everything in Article 1 are mutually exclusive. Since the US Army, National Guard, Marines and USAF and the Navy & CG is almost 100% US citizens, a tyrant could not expect the officers and men and women, citizen soldiers to use the weapons against free citizens. In fact, the oath that officers swear to is to the Constitution and not the President, Congress or the JCS. There are a lot of things I disagree with coming from the liberal progs, and their behaviors lately using violence is super uncool, BUT the notion of going to war with these people is reprehensible and appalling. Donald, we are “allowed” to have automatic weapons and many arms that our military uses. Some are quite expensive and not easily stored and maintained by the average citizen, but with the proper licensing, etc., and enough money, and other resources, one being land, one is able to acquire many arms. Oddly, based on your comment about being out-matched, you must believe we have beaten the Afghanis.
