Democrats are Running on Gun Control in 2018

Fayetteville, AR –-(Ammoland.com)- As we approach the mid-term election, an analysis of campaign advertising done by USA Today has found that so far this year, around 82,000 took a gun control stance as opposed to some 57,500 that were against. The reporting doesn’t go into detail about the exact positions taken other than to say that the spots “may call for increased restrictions on guns or opposition to the National Rifle Association.”

This comes after several decades of hesitation in the Democratic Party to be clear about their policy goals with regard to guns following the losses in 1994 after the passage of the “Assault Weapons” Ban. And it runs counter to the divisions that have shown up previously between Democrats in blue states and big cities and those running in districts that lean Republican, especially in rural districts.

But the consensus among Democratic candidates and voters is that recent high profile mass shootings such as the one in Parkland, Florida in February has given them an opportunity to win in November and to drive through new restrictions on gun rights.

Poll numbers in favor of gun control spike after an event that stays on the nightly news, and there is also a sharp partisan separation in opinions on what laws we ought to have, but a survey released by the Gallup organization in June shows the two parties as nearly perfect mirror images of each other, with eighty-eight percent of Republicans and twenty-four percent of Democrats having a favorable view of the NRA and sixty-nine percent of the former being satisfied with our current regulations, while seventy-nine percent of the latter expressed their dissatisfaction.

This U-shaped curve in our politics worries the talking heads in the media who think that compromise and shared feeling are the highest virtues, but it is also a realistic concern, given that the law relating to the exercise of rights will be formed in a free society ultimately by the guidance of the voters, and thus forming solid majorities in favor of rights is the safest course. That being said, there is good reason to think that the Democrats are a day late and a dollar short in their current approach.

The federal judiciary is moving rightward. Assuming that Brett Kavanaugh will be confirmed, his appointment is but the latest of many Trump nominees who have been placed on the bench from district courts on up. With Heller and McDonald already being treated as precedent and Kavanaugh’s position on gun control, the trend is in favor of gun rights.

As much as I hate to rest on the courts alone, the probable outcome for the next many years will be a swing against restrictions and for greater exercise. With that in mind, I have advice for the Democratic Party.

Gun control advocates have been telling us for a while now that all they really want is gun safety. I’ve always assumed that to be so much propaganda—if I’m willing to presume that the person saying it to me is knowledgeable and intelligent. But as controls are increasingly found to be unconstitutional, the groups in question will have to decide how to stay relevant, and advocating for actual safety is something that they could usefully do—promoting training classes, reliability in manufacture, and supervision of children around firearms come to mind.

The problem for advocates of control is that as the courts turn increasingly against them, they’ll have to learn how to use persuasion, not force. That may be impossible for them, and there are no guarantees in politics. How the 2018 election will go is still an open question. Those of us who value gun rights still have to remind our representatives that our support for them is contingent on their support for the basic principle of liberty that is at the heart of our national ideals.

    1. The democrats believe therefore they want others to believe that sensible gun laws will work. Well look at chicago over the last 8 months..they have had 300 homicides by firearms and over 1700 shootings. Now they may not have the strictest gun laws in the books, but they are one of the top. Their laws they come up with only restricts and restrains the law abiding community. By them restricting our gun rights they put us at the mercy of the criminals. No matter how many laws they come up with the criminals will continue to carry and use their illegal firearms. I always ask people that are for sensible gun laws, how will restricting my rights and the rights of all law abiding gun owner going to curtail gun violence? All i get is crickets chirping.

    2. everyone should know by now, the demorats are pure communist scum and enemies of we the people and republic.
besides that congress, the judiciary, nor a president has any enumerated powers to even infringe upon our rights to arms no matter what they say.
and if people will read how our 2nd amendment came into being and how it’s worded will come to the same conclusion.

    3. Feinstein displayed her complete ignorance of her knowledge about firearms in her questioning of Kavanaugh. If it has been her passion for 20+ years you’d think she’d take the time to educate herself on the topic rather than just screeching ‘ban assault weapons’.

      1. She lives under the impression that since her babbling on assault weapons worked in 94 and the ban passed it will continue to work.

    4. The Demo-Rats have only ever wanted total Gun Control, but won’t give up their personal Bodyguards, they live in total fear and will not take the same protection that we are supposed to!!! They will not come up with any way to protect any of our schools as they don’t want to offend anybody, but all of the politicians have done nothing other than NO GUN ZONES, since Columbine in 1999! I still bring this One and Only One question up ( WHAT IS THE PRICE OF A CHILDS LIFE?????????????) In my travels I have seen many types of security for schools but the politicians are blind to look at these as they are to busy trying to stay in their cushy jobs and being reelected, if we only did as much work as our politicians do we would be fired which is what most of them should be!!!!!!!

    5. They want to define “common sense”, as the “sense” among them is that the “common” shouldn’t have any guns. Didn’t we defeat, twice, the most powerful empire at that time about that stuff? We better do it again while we are still able. Foxtrot-Kilo-Alpha. 30

    6. It is about time the NRA weighed in on this massively anti-gun WA State Initiative 1639
      .
And finally, finally some one said what this Initiative does — it defines, IN LAW, any rifle which uses 100 year old technology as a “military assault rifle” and then uses the scary term MILITARY ASSAULT RIFLE it just FRAUDULENTLY DEFINED to raise money by imposing a NEW TAX and imposes MANY, MANY ANTI-GUN LAWS on ANY GUN FRAUDULENTLY defined as a MILITARY ASSAULT RILE.

If the gun is a twenty-two caliber rifle used only for pest control (THE CALIBER IS ONLY SUITABLE FOR SHOOTING MICE, RATS AND SQUIRRELS) and has only a three round magazine LOADED MANUALLY it is still classified as a MILITARY ASSAULT RIFLE BY LAW if it uses 100 year old technology.

The above is only one of MANY, MANY changes to existing gun laws this MASSIVE INITIATIVE MAKES.

WA State Superior Court Judge James Dixon, of Thurston County WA,. ordered the massive WA state gun control Initiative 1639 off of the WA ballot this November. This occurred Friday, August 17th, 2018. Judge Dixon said the initiative violated state law in two regards First, it was not readable (WA law states that all descriptions of law changes must be in at least size 10 font and readable) – and second, the description of the law changes must be accurate – and Judge Dixon said the initiative violated all of these laws. Judge Dixon gave one specific example: “I have 20-20 vision. I can’t read it…”.

On Friday, August 24th, the WA Supreme Court did not, repeat NOT, decide if the initiative violated the law. The WA Supreme Court did rule, REPEAT DID RULE, that the law did not specifically allow the Secretary of State, or a judge such as Judge Dixon, to remove the initiative from the ballot – apparently WA State Law is just a suggestion.

The WA State Supreme Court ordered the initiative be placed back, repeat BACK, on the WA State Ballot for this November.

If this massive Gun Control Initiative passes this November, Washington State will become the most anti-gun state in the United States, California will look like a gun friendly state by comparison.

      VOTE NO on Initiative 1639.

      1. If this bill passes in your state it will give other states the idea to follow suit. I along millions of other gun owners hope this doesn’t pass. I happen to live in florida where we just went through another “assault weapons” ban policy. Luckily it got shot down because of our governor and his backing by the NRA. Hopefully one day while i can live to enjoy it i hope we never have to worry about gun laws and restrictions again.

    7. Washington State is one place where the gun control crowd Is going crazy, telling lies and even breaking laws AND PRETENDING THE LAWS OF THE STATE OF WA DO NOT APPLY TO “GOOD PEOPLE LIKE THE GUN CONTROL CROWD’.

      1. Hey Macofjack, They’ve got nothing else to run on, and they know gun control makes their liberal base breath hard. To them, AR-15’s are still assault weapons and semi-automatic pistols are all automatics. Truth is, all firearms scare them. Have a good weekend.

    8. I don’t know about Feinstein having a CCW, or about her body guards, but I do know that she had a Chinese Agent around for many years, along with giving greased skids for her and husbands business. Just another self-appointed Elitist. The “Do What I Say Not What I Do”, Crowd. They stuff their pockets as fast as they can.

    9. I wish someone would show the hypocrisy of the Feinsteins of the world. Does she still have her CCW? Or how about the body guards?

      1. I remember years ago watching her talking on video. She was talking about the time her husband was in the hospital and she would go visit him. She says she always carried a handgun in her purse. She got the handgun after an attempted bombing of their house. It would not surprise me if she still carries that little surprise everywhere she goes.

    10. Ask ole Billy Bubber aka The Horny Hick if he thinks it a winning strategy to run on gun control as he is on the record of warning against it.
I hope they do not heed his advice,I love watching the pissing, moaning and crying and then finally their heads explode as it makes for such great entertainment.
