Gun Owner Activism In Action: King William County, VA Reduces CHP From $50 To $15

Virginia – -(AmmoLand.com)- Hats off to Virginia Citizens Defense League member Thomas Matthew Coffin, Sr and to the King William Board of Supervisors. One man’s activism got the Board of Supervisors in King William, VA to reduce their CHP fee from $50 to $15. PLUS he got a letter to the editor published in the Country Courier to tell everyone about the reduced fee!

There isn’t an easy link to see the LTE in the online version of the paper, so I had to transcribe it here:

Dear Editor,

Regarding Concealed Handgun Permit Fees:

As a member of VCDL, I regularly receive information of value about our Second Amendment rights, especially how it pertains to Virginia.

I was informed that the VA. Code 18.2-308.03 states how these fees are to be implemented. A permit fee for 5 years is not to exceed $50. Two fees are nonnegotiable. $10 goes to the court and $5 to the Virginia State police. That leaves a $35 fee that is discretionary to each locality. I have a spreadsheet of every Virginia locality and the fees range from $15 to $50 per permit, and many amounts in between. I thought it was hardly fair that a Caroline County resident was charged $15 for the same exact permit I received from king William for $50.

So, is any member of the community would do, I question each member of the board. I had a long dialogue with Mr. Hodges about this, (even though he is not my supervisor) and upon presentation of the evidence, he agreed with me and presented this to the board for review. I was extremely pleased to hear back from him that King William county will no longer tax CHP holders the maximum amount in order to use our constitutional right. They dropped it to $15 every 5 years.

I want to thank the Board for this action taken, and especially Mr. Hodges taking his time to contact and follow through with the King William citizen he does not even represent.

So my fellow King William CHP holders, enjoy your cheaper freedom.

Thomas M Coffin, Sr.
Manquin

Activism works and we can do more of this. Keep it up!

All it took was one activist to make this change. If pro gun folks could unite and direct their efforts in such a manner we might be able to gain some of our rights back. Enough of the petty bickering.

Mr. Bill

Well roughly 1000 people testfied against SB 978
Salem isn’t listening.
I’ll be doing whatever is possible to remove my current state senator even if it means running myself.
