Another Successful Self-Defense, Another Case of Anti-Gun Silence

U.S.A.-(Ammoland.com)- While Democrat Gov. Ralph Northam and fellow anti-gunners in Virginia are getting lots of mileage out of the tragic mass shooting in Virginia Beach, the gun control crowd is mute in the wake of a self-defense shooting in Cincinnati early Thursday in which an armed mother of five used her legally-owned handgun to shoot an ex-boyfriend who was attempting to break into her home.

According to WLWT and WTAE, a prosecutor’s spokesperson “said the woman would not face any charges.”

Published reports say the unidentified mom had a protection order and a license to carry, but it was a remark from Prosecutor Joe Deters in a news release that almost certainly caused a case of massive lockjaw in the gun control community.

“Thank goodness she had a Concealed Carry Permit and was able to defend herself and her five children,” Deters said. “It is hard to imagine what might have happened to her or her children if she had not been able to protect herself and her family.”

It’s a pattern as predictable as winter snow in northern Maine. The gun prohibition lobby, which is fond of justifying every new extremist proposal by arguing, “If it saves just one life, it will be worthwhile,” typically becomes tongue-tied when an armed private citizen uses a firearm to protect their life, and possibly the lives of others, especially their children.

The only exception to the rule is if they can be sufficiently condescending in an effort to dissuade other citizens from fighting back under similar circumstances.

The loss-of-voice malady has hit billionaire-backed gun prohibitionists in Washington State several times in recent memory. When a man identified as Tim Day staged a string of carjackings almost one year ago in southwest Washington and was eventually shot dead by an armed citizen in a Walmart parking lot near the State Capitol in Olympia, that citizen was hailed as a hero by nearly everyone but the Seattle-based gun control crowd.

Day had shot one man whose car he was attempting to steal, and that’s when David George, a pastor and volunteer firefighter and medic stepped in. George, the pastor at an Assembly of God church in Oakville, has a concealed pistol license. He told a reporter, “I carry a firearm for the same reason that I carry a first aid bag, hoping never to have to use them, but always being prepared nonetheless.”

Three years ago near the Seattle suburb of Burien, another armed citizen fatally shot an ax-wielding attacker at a 7-11 convenience store where he stops daily for coffee. AmmoLand recently chatted with that armed citizen, who still wishes to remain anonymous. He said he is able to sleep fine and he continues living a normal life.

That life nearly ended when Steven Blacktongue tried first to decapitate him with a large hatchet, and then struck the store clerk. The armed citizen, who had a pair of Smith & Wesson .357 Magnums—one in each pocket of his jacket—drew one of the guns and fired three times at point-blank range. The incident unfolded in 12 seconds on a store security video.

Again, Seattle anti-gunners were thrust into silence when then-King County Sheriff’s Sgt. Cindi West told reporters, “Fortunately, because of this customer with his weapon, this could have been a lot worse. The clerk could be the one laying there dead on the floor right now.”

Last September in the Chicago suburb of Cicero, an armed citizen intervened when an attempted traffic stop turned into something more dangerous. The driver opened fire and wounded Officer Luis Duarte, and that’s when the legally-armed citizen opened fire with his own gun.

The Chicago Tribune reported at the time that Cicero Police Supt. Jerry Chlada, Jr. acknowledged, “We were lucky enough to have a citizen on the street there who is a conceal carry holder, and he engaged in gunfire with the suspect.”

Cicero Town President Larry Dominick told reporters, “I want to applaud the citizen, a civilian, who risked his life to help in apprehending this armed suspect.”

In this case, a local gun control advocate did speak out. Colleen Daley, executive director of the Illinois Council Against Handgun Violence, was quoted by the Tribune.

“This situation worked out OK, but what if it hadn’t?” she reportedly said. “It easily could have gone the other way. To sit here and say that concealed carry is the answer to all of our gun violence problems, or more, that armed people are going to keep us safer, that’s not true.”

That might be a debate she should have with patrons of an Oklahoma City restaurant where a man identified as Alexander Tilghman, 28, opened fire from outside the building in May 2018. But it was his bad luck that not one but two armed citizens who did not know one another grabbed their guns and shot Tilghman fatally. The would-be killer did wound three people inside Louie’s Grill & Bar before his rampage ended abruptly.

Armed citizens Carlos Nazario and Bryan Wittle were there to intervene, and an Oklahoma police captain was quoted by CNN observing, “These guys were protecting somebody else's life. You can say they are heroes.”

Except, you can't say that if you're a gun prohibitionist. At least, they haven't so far.

Here’s the quote again from your anti-gunner: “This situation worked out OK, but what if it hadn’t?” she reportedly said. “It easily could have gone the other way. To sit here and say that concealed carry is the answer to all of our gun violence problems, or more, that armed people are going to keep us safer, that’s not true.” Let’s stipulate for a moment that she has a point. In fact, an armed citizen can miss the bad guy and inflict further injury. I’m not aware of any time this has occurred, but let’s humor her. So, because we… Read more »

“She” obviously has a strong case of what the shrinks call “cognitive dissonance”. C.D. is where a person gets a severe headache when the facts collide with what they think reality should be. And it does have a tendency to tie up a persons tongue, and cause them to stammer a lot. Trying to get any words out usually ends up making them sound like Jackie Gleason going , “huummaa, huummaa, huummaa” all day long, so they just shut up totally.

This is clearly a blame the VICTIM mentallity! Could you imagine, the same Woman standing up saying that another Woman should not have worn a dress, put on make up, had her hair and nails done, drank a glass of wine and danced and NOT HAVE EXPECTED TO BE RAPPED? Of course you wouldn’t, but that is exactly what she is doing in this situation. She is blaming the CCW PERMIT Holder for something that might occur. Why the mention that it was good thing that she had a concealed carry permit? While that is good in providing training on how to use a gun it has no bearing on this case. She was in her home defending herself and family from an unwanted intruder. Last I checked there is no requirement for concealed carry inside your own home. Is there some law requiring a CCP even in your own home in Cincinnati?

Maybe, the thought was that a ccp lended credibility to the justifiable shooting. CCP, LTC, CHL’s generally have some objectivity in their issue and perhaps the thought was that this gal was competent to do the shoot-the-badguy thing.
Here in Texas, we have to take a class and “demonstrate proficiency” with a handgun to get our licenses.
Maybe the cop was promoting the process?

The fact that people think at CHL or CWP is required to carry a firearm is hilarious. We have natural born human rights guaranteed by our constitution’s Bill of Rights and that is THE ONLY cave that is necessary.
When will gun owners in America stop being cowards and bans together, march on Washington and TELL the government what will be, what won’t be and what will always be? Remind them that WE ARE THEIR BOSSES AND THEY ARE OUR EMPLOYEES!!

There is very little documentation, data and actual honest facts to support the anti-gun hysteria sweeping the nation. It takes these unfortunate examples of someone going berserk with a firearm, and through a well-funded propaganda machine, turns an incident into a trend, thereby instilling panic in those who don’t know enough to separate any truth from the fabrications. All it takes are some crafty propagandists and some gullible, uninformed and often just plain ignorant people to perpetuate these myths behind gun “control”. Add crowd hysteria, the formula is complete. . It is truly one of the most graphic lessons of… Read more »

The rise in anti-gun rhetoric is proportional to the rise in socialist doctrine because the marxist’s know you must disarm the citizen before implementing total government control. On the local news, last night, they had a feature article where they interviewed a black woman who had jointed the local chapter of Mommies against guns because she had two sons killed. One was killed in a knife attack and the other was shot several years later. The mayor of Knoxville was standing with the mommies with a big smile on her face. My thoughts were that something else besides gun violence caused these deaths. Maybe gang affiliation or just hanging with the wrong crowd. Anyway, there has to be some parental responsibility along the way rather than join… Read more »

This comparison to the invasion of France in WWII is specious at best. Without the suicides and gang violence endemic in democrat run big cities the United States’ gun death toll is near the bottom of the “gun death” statistics. It is interesting that those municipalities which disarm their citizens have the highest violent crime rates. One could suspect that this is deliberate… Remember, these are the same people that count shootings by drug dealers anywhere near a school, to be a school attack, and gang members up to the age of 25 as “children”. The “phobe” appellation to any subject implies fear, not the reasoned apprehension and disgust for a group, religion, or economic/political movement with a history of mass murder.
The “phobe” designation is a totally invented term by those who seek to silence all who would ask questions about the ideology, methods, and goals.

I believe right here in Arizona is a perfect example of what helps get rid of gun crimes. Some years ago the Phoenix valley (Arizona being a border state) was becoming the carjack and kidnap capital of America. The state government saw what was happening and realized something had to be done. The Arizona government, unlike the national government, took action and passed constitutional carry (no permit required) and the governor signed it into law. Almost immediately crime, all crime, started down. It has gone down nearly every year since. Someday maybe these gun grabbers may realize the only thing… Read more »

Those are simply things they say and appear to be particularly useful against the illiterate masses during so-called mass shootings. I am a retired law enforcement officer and an attorney with over twenty years of trial practice. I can tell you from experience that police usually cannot answer an emergency call in a shooting incident quickly enough. So, as you say, when seconds count, police are minutes away. Thus, it is imperative for everyone’s personal safety that they have firearms close at hand and know how to use them safely and competently.

There is long standing proof that to stop a bad guy with a gun ya need to have a good guy with a gun. If ya want to wait the eternal minutes (or hours) before the authorities show up, that’s up to you. As for me, I carry a handgun for the same reason I have fire extinguishers: It’s better to have and not need than to need and not have.
Research also documents the truth that easing concealed carry laws reduces criminal activity. Maybe criminals fear armed citizens more than the “criminal” justice system?

There was a name given to this program but I can’t recall what they called it. “Operation” something, no doubt, and the NRA contributed to, and helped set it up, but the basic idea was to actually ENFORCE firearms laws, instead of using them to plea bargain a crime. I am continually working on articulating my position that Gun Laws are a feudal attempt to do more of the same but expecting different results. If “Gun-Free Zones” were outlawed instead of guns being outlawed we would have a much safer society. If 15 to 20% of the population were Licensed CCW and did in fact carry, there would be fewer “mass shootings” and in turn fewer victims.

I agree that there should not be a requirement for a license to carry, but that is the current state in the majority of jurisdictions in the country right now. However, that should not prevent law abiding citizens from carrying concealed. Just be discreet. If you do need to deploy your firearm, do so and then make like a tree, and leave. You are so right! Carry every where, I do not recognize Gun Free Zones.

Don’t ask, don’t tell. Who is to know unless you have cause to use your weapon, and in that situation, would anyone complain?

I would take exception to your statement about the media outlets (TV stations) in Oklahoma being “fair” dealing with stories involving firearms. I have lived here for 43 years and Channel 4 in OKC has always been anti-gun in their reporting. Channel 9 to a lessor extent and does anybody really watch 5 or 25? I don’t know about Channel 6 or any other Tulsa stations. Channel 4 has moderated their bias only because the population has become more gun friendly. That and the fact that Linda Cavanaugh retired a number of years ago.
