Florida – -(Ammoland.com)-Florida Carry – ADAMANTLY OPPOSES SB 7026

We strongly urge members and supporters to IMMEDIATELY send an email to ALL SENATORS listed below!

This bill is a classic example of a fundamentally good bill destroyed by countless amendments.

  • Establishes voluntary armed teacher program
  • Establishes mental health care program for schools to recognize symptoms
  • Creates a government commission and a new state-level department to deal with school safety

But it also imposes unconstitutional restrictions on Florida citizens as well as…

  • Prohibits purchase of ANY firearm by anyone under 21 years of age.
  • Imposes a 3-day waiting period on the purchase of ANY firearm with some exceptions.
  • Makes possession , sale, etc. of bump-stocks illegal – NO LEGAL DISPOSITION OPTION! OWN ONE – INSTANT FELON!
  • Facilitates confiscation of firearms without due process in Baker Act cases.

Florida Carry vehemently opposes any and all “compromises” which REMOVE rights from law-abiding citizens.

This is just an old mans feelings about one of the largest problems in this country today. Kids today are a product of the “new” way to bring up kids. No corporal punishment by anyone. Sit down with your child and explain how to behave, what to say and what not to do. Teachers can no longer dish out any kind of physical discipline. Can’t lay a hand on them no matter how physical the kid gets. Parents can no longer paddle their unruly children for fear of “legal” intervention. School bus drivers can no longer discipline totally out of… Read more »

Well I guess that means if you join the military at 18 you have to go to war without a gun till your 21. Good thinking I think the minimum age to own a cell phone should be 21, because these kids are killing more people on the roads texting and playing games on their phones now days every time I see a young girl driving she has a phone in one hand and the steering wheel in the other and is looking at the phone.

roger g

not old enough to have a gun BUT at 18 YOU ARE old enough to fight and die to save our SORRY ASSES !
typical worthless politician !

tomcat

@ W. Bill you are more informed about laws and applying them than I am but I can see what ever they have to do to achieve their end desire regardless of whether it is legal or appropriate.

Eric_CA

While reading this article, i was listening to Martha MacCullum on Fox. She had the father of a high school shooting victim. The same father who was at the White House.

I feel this man is misguided. Blaming an inanimate object. He doesn’t like to talk about gun control. Instead be wants to focus on fixing the schools while lobbying for gun control.

If he really cared about school safety he should lobby for metal detectors and address the failures of the Federal and local agencies.

Charles

This is what happens when all those liberals from NY retired in Florida. They infected the common sense of our lawmakers.

William S Murphy

You’re a child until turning 21…NO: Drivers license; Military service; Voting in elections; Smoking; Marriage; Out after 9pm-6Am; GD Firearms… Now go to bed and shut up!!!

tomcat

@ Wm. Murphy I hope you are being sarcastic when you impose these rules on 18 to 21 year olds. They do not have to live with your restrictions. All this amounts to is covering up for the screw ups from the FBI all the way to the school authorities. They all have that blood on their hands including the Barney Fife sheriff.

Wild Bill

@Tcat, WSM is mixing statutory rights given by states pursuant to their Tenth Amendment police powers, US Constitutional Prepolitical Civil Rights, and contract law.

Not so Funny Thought. How many of the Military shoot-ups , were committed by 18 – 21 yr olds ? I do believe most were or all over 21. Would you tell a pvt. home on leave , getting ready to deploy to a combat zone ! He can’t buy a firearm because he’s not old enough !! That Could have been my age groups problem ( 63 & up ) But not ! It’s a different generations problem ( and Mine ) I sure as hell wouldn’t tell a Guy ( or Gal ) they can’t and no one… Read more »

A cleaner way to go would be to redefine the age of adulthood as 21 or even higher. Face it, with this entitled generation’s brainwashing by the liberal public education system they are still children at 18. Seems like 25 is now the new 18.

“Everyone is a Winner” has produced a generation that cannot deal with losing. When faced with an unbearable insult they lash out in anger at everyone in sight.

Wild Bill

@Hank, If the Congress had the power to take away the Constitutional Civil Rights of persons that currently have the full panorama of Constitutional Civil rights, but are below the age of 21, then Congress would have the power to take away all of our Constitutional Civil Rights until we reached the adulthood age of 95. Congress is not so empowered.

Hank

I beg to differ. I merely suggested that the age of “adulthood” be raised. This is an arbitrary number varying by where in the world you live. Look, it used to be that you could buy a beer in Texas at age 18. Not any more. It’s about responsibility. 18 year-olds as a group no longer meet the criteria for being responsible. Maybe 100 years ago, when they were forced into responsibility, as opposed to the coddled offspring that we see now. Remember “…a well regulated militia…”? We have many commonly-accepted regulations regarding firearms. That does not mean (arguably) that… Read more »

Charles

SO what you are saying is that we can send children off to war? Because if they are not adults at 18 they are children according to you. Take your bull shit somewhere else Hank.
If you are old enough to serve and die you are old enough to have every privilege that a 21 year old has. Ever hear of age discrimination?

Wild Bill

@Hank, I would lead 16 year olds in combat. Just because they are not mature enough to vote does not mean that they can not operate crew served weapons! I had a 17 year old that got a chest full of medals. He was a soldier’s soldier. He understood breaking things and killing people, and enjoyed it. I hope that he is still in and has won a commission. But about raising the age at which the full panorama of Constitutional Rights attach, the issue is “Whether Congress has the power to take away prepolitical Constitutional Civil Rights of an… Read more »

Oldvet, Funny! Thank you for the laugh.

Missouri Born

If people under 21 can’t be responsible to own firearms how can they be responsible to vote, sign contracts, own property, and how can they serve in the military where they will have to use firearms.
Knee jerk reactions by politicians with no idea’s on how to fix a problem.

tomcat

@MB As I see it this is not a knee jerk reaction. It is a save your a$$ reaction to the complete failure from the FBI on down to the school administrators. Make the shooter and the gun responsible for everything takes the heat off everyone including the Barney Fife sheriffs department. Politicians can say we acted to save another act where in fact they did nothing to keep it from happening again.

LE

May families are now considering teaching their kids about guns and how to handle them. When our ‘government’ wants to find better ways to keep the random killings at bay, they come up with this?
Lastly, under these provisions how are we to arm our soldiers as most all are 18 upon taking the oath?

Wild Bill

@OV, Yes the old joke about “Give him lots of that Triggernomitry. He is the worst shot in the family” comes to mind. I have a great joke about “Pi r squared” but it would take forever to type.

Wild Bill

@OV, Cornbread are square! yes, yes, my best joke.

Flattop

America at it’s finest. Tearcthe hole between father and son bigger. If Dems get their way. Sons can’t squirrel, duck, deer etc. Hunt with his father anymore. Why? He can’t have the long gun necessary for the enjoyment. If the father hands him his own gun to use he then becomes a straw purchaser! GIVE ME A BREAK YOU STUPID PRICKS! Don’t willingly lay down your rights.

Wild Bill

@Flattop, I concur, but you do know, of course, that the “Dems” really are not the Democrat Party anymore. They are the Communist party that go by the names “progressive, liberate, socialists, and Democrat” for the purpose of fooling people.

Cam

Uh, not just father and son, my daughter is “daddy’s hunting and fishing buddy”.

RM Molon Labe

If Govt can vote away a RIGHT….is it still a Right? When will Govt FOLLOW the Constitution? I believe they haven’t for a very long time…

Chiefton

Absolutely the truth. The SCOTUS must step in and do their job protecting the Constitution which is the law of the land.

Wild Bill

@RMML, Rights created by mere statute could be repealed with the repeal of the statute but not Constitution Civil Rights. Government will not, on their own, go back to the following the Constitution. The S. Ct started the trend away from the Constitution in 1804. FDR exacerbated the trend by convincing Congress to give their exclusive legislative rule making authority away to agencies. The trend away from the Constitution continues with agencies of the executive branch elevating their “rule with the force and effect of law” above the peoples’ Constitutionally enumerated Civil Rights. The president tell the agency to write… Read more »
