Wyoming Heads Toward Red Flag Gun Seizures

Opinion

Red Flag Gun Seizures
Red Flag Gun Seizures

Wyoming – -(AmmoLand.com)- The 2019 legislative session will be here before you know it, and you and I have to be ready to FIGHT to stop ‘Red Flag Gun Seizure Orders’ from becoming law in Wyoming.

Lawmakers in state after state have been pre-filing this legislation in their efforts to ram this legislation into law before grassroots gun owners like you and I can fight back. And don’t think for a moment that this can’t happen here in Wyoming.

Truth be told, supposedly “pro-Second Amendment” Republicans all over the country are jumping onto this scheme that is being pushed by BILLIONAIRE Michael Bloomberg. In fact, earlier this year it passed into law in Florida, where Republicans control the entire state government. It also passed under a GOP Governor in Illinois.

And Republicans in Iowa, Michigan, Ohio and Pennsylvania are pushing for passage early next session. Make no mistake. The battle over ‘Red Flag Gun Seizure Orders’ is coming to Wyoming.

If enacted, ‘Red Flag Gun Seizure Order’ legislation would allow virtually anyone to make a claim that you are a danger to yourself or someone else and ask a judge to order you stripped of your firearms. The amount of room for abuse in this process should have every gun owner in Wyoming alarmed.

Consider the following:

  • These gun seizure orders will be issued before you have been convicted, or even charged, with anything.

A gun owner with absolutely no criminal background of any kind can have his firearms seized before he ever sets foot in a courtroom. You would have more due process rights in traffic court than you would in defending your constitutional right to keep and bear arms.

  • The hearings that determine whether or not to strip you of your firearms happen in secret.

Known as ex-parte proceedings, these hearings take place in your absence. You will have no ability to question your accuser, provide your own evidence, or testify in your own defense. In fact, the first time you will be made aware of this is when law enforcement officers come to your home to seize your firearms. [which has already proved deadly for one Maryland gun owner.]

  • The mere fact that you recently purchased a firearm or any ammunition constitutes evidence that can be used against you.

Under the list of ‘evidence’ that the court can consider in deciding to disarm you is the ‘recent acquisition of a firearm, ammunition, or other weapons.’ So just buying a firearm or a box of .22’s could be enough for a judge to order you stripped of your firearms.

Every gun owner in the state knows someone who has gone through a bad divorce; maybe you’ve gone through that misery yourself. Can you imagine what an embittered ex-spouse could do to you if Wyoming enacts this legislation? How about a neighbor who doesn’t like your pro-gun bumper sticker?

The risk to gun owners is ENDLESS!

In fact, the accuser doesn’t even have to file their complaint before a court in most cases. They can just phone it in. And once your guns are seized, you’ll be spending weeks and thousands of dollars in court in attorney’s fees to try and get them back.

Some will claim that these ‘red flag gun seizures’ laws will help law enforcement stop madmen before they can carry out a shooting. But that is a cheap political talking point, designed to brow beat gun owners like you and me into giving up and not fighting this bill.

Just consider the facts.

Under current law, those who tell others of their intent to kill can be arrested for making threats if law enforcement is ever informed. Those who are exhibiting “warning signs” that they may be planning violence, can — at minimum — be interviewed by law enforcement who can move to arrest the person if needed.

As anyone in law enforcement will tell you, you can tell A LOT about a person’s intentions with the answers to just a couple questions.

But they’ll also tell you that no gun control law on the books will ever do a lick of good if law enforcement fails to do its job — like we saw at Parkland, Florida earlier this year.

Gun-grabbers know all of this, but they don’t care. Their goal is to completely ELIMINATE due process to effectively enable bureaucrats to decide who gets guns and who doesn’t.

That’s why our job is to draw a line in the sand against ‘Red Flag Gun Seizure Orders’ RIGHT NOW before it’s too late.

The truth is, many candidates for the State House and Senate flat-out REFUSED to answer Wyoming Gun Owners’ Candidate Survey earlier this year because they support so-called “Red Flag” Gun Confiscation Orders and didn’t want to go on the record about it.

So with the 2019 session just a few weeks away, my goal is to generate a MOUNTAIN of petitions in opposition to this legislation before they return!

But I need your help!

  • First, please sign the petition that we’ve prepared and submit it back to us right away. This will make sure that your legislators know where you stand on this important issue.
  • Second, please agree to your most generous contribution so that we can get the word out to as many gun owners as possible about this and get them involved. Your generosity will help us crank up the heat now, in the critical weeks ahead of session.

Don’t think that just because the legislature hasn’t gaveled in for the year that we can sit back and relax — we can’t!

Since the election, the legislature has met for days in committee work which often decides which bills are going to move once they actually gavel in.

That’s why I’m counting on your action and financial support. I know I’ve asked a lot of you this year. But you know just how high the stakes are today with gun-grabbers on the attack. But you’ve seen your support for the Wyoming Gun Owners make a BIG difference with passage of Stand-Your-Ground just this year!

Republicans and Democrats from all over the country think we can end gun violence if we just let BILLIONAIRE Michael Bloomberg turn our states into the next New York, Maryland or California.

If you disagree, you need to say so right away.

Please sign your petitions, and agree to your most generous contribution of $100, $50 or at least $25 right away!

There is one way to stop this crap, that is to get those who are oath breakers, all government servants take the same oath of office “To support and DEFEND the Constitution both Fed and State, that includes our bill of rights since DEC/15/1791 Bill of rights day ! All law enforcement are to support and defend our rights. Now if they take our tax dollars (a pay check) and breach there oath of office, then they are committing fraud taking our money under false pretenses, and that’s a felony. they should be removed from service and charged with a… Read more »

It shocks and frightens me that there are sane, rational people who think that red flag laws are a good idea. Anyone who has read the Bill of Rights knows that such laws are unconstitutional, not to mention dangerous to our liberties.

Fine to buy private, if you are young and starting out w/guns, but those in retirement or middle age already have guns bought from gun shops going back in time. Bloomberg is paying off state congressmen to push these laws.

Gene, another thing to remember is that the Left – including many psychiatrists and psychologists, medical doctors, judges, “bio-ethicists”, and other “professionals” – has been pushing for some time now to have pedophilia removed from the DSM, saying it is normal, not a disorder. They want it removed as a disorder and then legislated as lawful behavior. Being as you are familiar with the DSM, I’m sure you’ve heard of Democrats, people like Bill Clinton, saying that there is no reason a child couldn’t have a “safe and loving” sexual relationship with an adult. I’m not religious, but I still… Read more »

Gestapo/stasi activities like this will not be tolerated in the deep south. States are going full throttle to circumvent Const. /bill of rights! Someone (politicians) is being bought to push this crap!. Trust no one, incl family, thus keep things to yourself, like what you own or stock for preps. Stay out of community activies, org., vets org, as you can’t rub shoulders with people you aren’t sure of. Folks, ghost any friends or aquaintances that are not on same page, they could someday be a threat, to incl relatives. Cg. phone # and emails and distance yourself. Stay off… Read more »

better than seeing that same person driving an unlicensed car. They do something wrong and leave the scene it’ll be harder to find them based on their fake license plates. If that sounds crazy some parts of california don’t have good public transportation options. If someone can’t reliably get to their place of employment they may get desperate.

I envision a “deer in the headlights” look on lawyers faces. Pro and anti lawyers! Just think of all the $$$$’s that can – will – be made prosecuting and defending gun owners!!
Can this thought be the reason 2nd Amendment lawyers aren’t jumping into this fray to stop this legislation!?
Hummmm

It makes one’s stomach twist and turn. (just for starters) I often wonder how these yahoo’s do what they do.
Most have children and loved ones. Don’t they ever consider the future of those loved ones and how the ‘for the moment feel good laws’ they pass will affect them and other generations?
Mind boggling.

The GOP are worthless COWARDS…..PERIOD! Trump gave us the foreknowledge of this when he announced the government will seize our guns and we have to get “due process” afterwards. Trump is a traitor as well as the others. We ought to be ashamed of voting for Trump – we fell for it hook-line-and-sinker. Here in Michigan both houses are dominated by GOP but discovering what they are up to is unconstitutional and criminal and we fell for it. I am now an anarchist as the ONLY secure government is ONLY determined by the PEOPLE who work in said government. It… Read more »

Tom, sadly, yet again, the pool of candidates was taken from the bottom of the cesspool, even a floater or two might have been better.

I am not sure about the comments made regarding President Trump. I would need more info before deciding that he would cast off much of his political support to undermine the 2nd Amendment. As to Hillary, there is no question what she would do, or rather, would have already done, if she had been elected. Why? Please note the following story, as I was there, and will write it in broad strokes, but it will be accurate: In December, 1993, I was a member of a National Guard unit. The December Drill was always an annual personnel/medical paperwork catch up… Read more »

We don’t need anyone who doesn’t have a viable answer/solution either. Hell no we couldn’t vote for Killary but then we are always left with the lesser of 2 evils. That is not a free choice. It’s a choice between evil door #1 and evil door #2. While Trump has done a few good things, it has not been enough to save our country yet. I am praying he stands up against the others who wish to destroy this country but I have not been too impressed.

The primary problem with this nationwide hysteria to enforce red flag laws is none are crafted with sufficient protections for the accused. Apparently, we’ve been deluding ourselves that the U.S. judiciary would rather let ten guilty parties go free than convict one innocent person. Additionally, these laws generally place enormous responsibility and pressure on police officers and judges to dispense pretrial punishment, just in case. This kind of punishment is overly severe to be based on amateur opinions. Since we’re dealing with mentally troubled persons, why doesn’t the law include analysis by licensed psychiatrists? Doubtlessly, we all know of judges… Read more »

Spot on…How about this scenario; A person has a DUI from 20 years ago, therefor the government decides they have shown bad judgement in the past, so they may do so again. Sound Crazy? California already tried it!
